Notes:
1. Your Gram got married to your grandfather, Howard, an unbelievably handsome man as you well know, they actually got married from Zia Beuna's and Uncle Bill Giadone's house. The reason for this was that my Nonno, Adolfo, (your Gram's father), thought your Gram was too young to get married and wanted her to wait a bit. Being as strong willed as we know she was, she decided to marry anyway against his wishes. Since she couldn't marry from her father's house, she got married from Zia Beuna's house. Nonno (Adolfo) forbade anyone from the family to go. Uncle Rudy went anyway and got quite a beating when he got home. (L)

2. BLISS -- McGAFFEY
Stanstead, March 15, Centenary United Church, Stanstead, was the scene of a very pretty wedding, when Anna Belle, daughter of Mrs. Lena McGaffey, became the bride of Lieutenant Lloyd Bryan Bliss, 74th Anti Tank Battery, R.C.A., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bliss, of Stanstead. Rev. C. M. Stewart officiated at the ceremony and Mrs. G. M. Stewart presided at the organ. The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, Mr. Donald McGaffey, of Montreal, wore a floorlength gown of white triple sheer over taffeta with a high, round neckline,
long full sleeves and a full skirt. Her fingertip length veil of tulle illusion was held in place with
a tiny wreath of white sweet, peas and she carried a bouquet of Talisman roses.
Miss Kathleen McGaffey, who was her sister's only attendant, wore a floor-length gown of ice blue sheer over taffeta fashioned on similar lines to the bride's dress. She wore a small wreath of pink carnations in her hair and carried a bouquet of pink carnations. Mr. Philip Poaps, of Stanstead, acted as groomsman, and the ushers were Mr. Roy R. W. Hill, of Stanstead,
cousin of the bride, and Mr. Thomas Millet, of Rock Island. Mrs. McGaffey, the bride's mother, wore a green afternoon dress with hat and accessories to match and a corsage of tea roses. Mrs. Bliss, the groom's mother, wore a wine afternoon dress with hat to match and white accessories. She wore a corsage of white roses. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride's mother. Later Lieutenant and Mrs. Bliss left, for a short wedding trip, the bride travelling in a sea green wool suit with brown hat and accessories and a brown fur coat. Guests from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Donald McGaffey, of Montreal. (Sherbrooke Daily Record, March 15, 1943, p. 5)3. NEW JOURNAL PUBLISHER
Commencing next week, Lloyd Bliss is to be editor and publisher of The Journal. To the majority of you my successor needs no introduction, but to assure that the fourth chief of this enterprize and institution is not unknown to any reader, a brief commentary upon him is very much in order. Happily, this stems entirely from personal acquantanceship, without benefit of query or note. Lloyd, unlike me or my two notable predecessors, is a native of Stanstead and apart from his years of active service has lived in your midst all his life. He was brought up upon the soil of this County; thus, his roots could not be deeper here. He has an ambition to be master of his own destiny, and this urge has led him to the editor's chair of The Stanstead Journal. All I can say is that with your loyal support, such as I have been priveleged to enjoy and which I bespeak for him, he will mighty soon learn.

Notes:
1. "From Ottawa or Washington this international community is something that can not possibly exist officially. But it does still exist at the community and personal level. Our fire departments […] stand ready at all times to assist one another. Our churches and service clubs see no border when someone is in need. We all have friends and relatives on both sides of the border and few of us ever think of the other as a Vermonter or a Quebecer. This is as it should be, and how it can be if we can keep the bureaucrats out of our lives."
