Twin sons, one weighing eight pounds and the other nine pounds, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Badger, Jan 22. Congratulations. (Orleans County Monitor, Jan. 26, 1910, p. 6)3. MRS. HERBERT BADGER
A feeling of deep sadness came to our entire community when on Sunday, Feb. 23, it was learned that Mrs. Herbert Badger had died of pneumonia, following infuenza. She was sick only one week. Cora Belle, was the only daughter of John W. and Carrie B. (Crandall) Dudley and was born here Sept. 18, 1882, and has lived here all her life. Her friends were legion, for to know her was to love her. On March 26, 1905, she was united in marriage to Herbert W. Badger of this place and to them were born twin sons, Dale and Vale, who are now nine years of age. They will sadly miss their mother as they were ever her first thought and care. When Cora was very young she was left motherless and lived with her Grandmother Dudley until her father married again in a few years. Since then she not only received a mother's love and care but was an own child to her second mother. Cora was always interested and helpful in the societies of our village and a dear neighbor but her heart was bound up in her home and there she has left a void that never can be fully filled. It was so hard for her to go, and we cannot understand why it was willed so. Her pain at parting is over, but for us who must go on without her it seems well-nigh impossible, and her ready help and ever smiling face will always live in our memory. On account of the sons, who were seriously ill at the time, and also Mrs. John Dudley, who was ill, it was thought best not to have any funeral. On the afternoon of Feb. 25, the burial took place, Rev. G. W. Collins officiating at the grave and H. G. Ruiter, undertaker. The bearers were E. W. Hamilton, B. C. Royce, F. L. Parlin and E. S. Boyd. Those going to the cemetery were Herbert Badger and sister, Mrs. Leon Adams, and mother, Mrs. Mary Badger, John Dudley and John Cook, also Mr. and Mrs. John Buck of East Charleston. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is given to the sorrowing ones. Besides the husband, who was prostrated by his loss, and the sons, there are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Dudley, mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Dudley [Badger], who loved Cora as her own and an aunt, Mrs. Ella Church, also several other relatives. It is planned later to have a memorial service in the church. The many friends want this service, at which time there will be a floral offering which afterwards will be taken to the cemtery.
Card of Thanks -- We sincerely thank all who remembered our dear one during her sickness by favors, inquiries and calls, also for the beautiful flowers presented after death. The exceedingly kind acts of the neighbors we appreciate and feel that the Lord will reward them in His own good time.

3. Obit: Roy Dunbar Patterson, Sr.
Patterson, Roy Dunbar died peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2006 in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Roy, still youthful at 90, will be deeply missed by Blanche, his wife of 64 years, and his children and their spouses: Roy and Karalyn Patterson of Cambridge, England; Robin Patterson-Judd and Terry Judd of Niagara-on-the-Lake; Randi Patterson and her husband David Spence of Stratford; and Robert David Patterson of Niagara-on-the-Lake. His grandchildren will miss their witty and generous "Grumpa": Robin Spence and her husband Kyle Haffner; Ashley Patterson Judd; Ryan Spence; and Roderick Spence.
Roy and Blanche met 71 years ago at Lake Wilcox just north of Toronto. Their long-distance courtship (between Toronto and Boston) lasted 7 years until Blanche completed her schooling. With the threat of World War 2 upon them they hastened to marry and subsequently established a home in Toronto. Roy was Blanche's strong partner in raising the children; her biggest golf fan and best art critic.
A lithographer by trade, Roy's avocation was renovating homes, building cottages and landscaping. His legacy to his children and grandchildren is "Rockridge", the cottage he designed and built on the shores of Paudash Lake in the Haliburton Highlands of Ontario. With a crowbar he battled the Precambrian shield, using leverage to move huge rocks and gravity to slide mounds of earth for the foundation. He cajoled Nature into helping with his vision, arranging rocks so that waves would create a sandy beach; working with the steep lay of the land to engineer excellent drainage; scouring the woods for the right trees to replenish his barren lot - one day transplanting 22 white birch. His creativity, ingenuity and work ethic remain an inspiration to all his family members, each of whom were apprenticed in building and maintaining Roy's dream.
Years ago Roy cleared a site on his property with the best view down the lake. He placed a huge flat rock ("the bury-up rock") in the middle and surrounded it with his own granite version of Stonehenge. In front he planted two junipers, one for himself and one for Blanche. There at his request his cremated remains will be scattered (when Blanche can be convinced to part with them).
In the meantime, the Patterson family will be hosting a party in Roy's honour to celebrate a life well lived by a gentle man who cared about family, friends and making the world a more beautiful place. Relatives and friends are invited to join us on Sunday October 15th from 1pm to 4pm at The Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club.
All members of the staff at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Hospital were so generous with their care: in lieu of flowers donations to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Chapel of the Morgan Funeral Homes.+ 850 M ii Harrison Colby Howland
