11. One killed, two injured in crashes Owatonna man is weekend fatality From staff reports
One man was killed and two others injured in separate car accidents over the weekend.
A 72-year-old Owatonna man was killed in a traffic accident Saturday in Dodge County. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, William K. Vogt died at the scene of an accident along Minnesota Highway 56, 2 miles north of U.S. 14. The accident was reported at 5:53 p.m.
Vogt was driving north on Highway 56. Richard L. Shaw, 19, of Dodge Center was traveling south, and, according to the patrol, Shaw's vehicle crossed the center line and collided with the Vogt vehicle. A passenger in the Vogt vehicle, Laura Vogt, 72, of Owatonna, was treated and released from Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
In another accident, two men who were standing between two cars west of Chatfield on Sunday were hospitalized when a third vehicle hit one of the cars, pinning the pair between the two vehicles. The men, Gerald W. Tesch, 40, of Rochester, and Michael J. Plenge, 41, of Chatfield were in fair condition this morning at Saint Marys.
The patrol said Tesch's car was parked on the west shoulder of Minnesota Highway 30, 2 miles west of Chatfield. Plenge had pulled over facing Tesch's car. The third vehicle was driven by Galen Lacey, 87, of Chatfield, the patrol said. He was driving east on Highway 30 when he crossed the center line and hit one of the parked cars. That car, in turn, hit the third vehicle. Lacey was taken to Saint Marys, where he refused treatment. His wife, Odelia Lacey, 86, of Chatfield, was in fair condition today. March 14, 1932 — July 13, 2020
On July 13th, 2020, our Lord and Savior looked from the heavens and was saddened by how one of His devoted servants and lifelong Waukesha resident, Shirley, was suffering. The earthly doctors did their best, but the only cure was the healing powers of His love. Jesus then took Shirley by the hand and escorted her from this life that had begun on March 14, 1932, to His father’s kingdom. This is a place of eternal love and peace, where there are no diseases, no wars, no famine, no suffering and no sorrow.
Waiting for her at the heavenly gates was the love of her life, Gerald, aka Jerry. It was equal to how he patiently waited for her in front of God’s table at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church on June 11, 1955, when their two lives became one. Their marriage was an excellent one and an example for others.
After a few moments of holding hands and a few words of love, Jerry then escorted his bride from the heavenly gates to their eternal home that he had been preparing since Nov. 21, 1996.
At their new home was a reception, which included Shirley’s parents, Richard and Laura Hedtcke; her five brothers and their spouses, one sister, and a brother-inlaw. Also in attendance were Jerry’s parents, his three brothers, his three sisters, and their spouses. Many of Shirley’s friends who had completed their life journeys were also in attendance.
Shirley’s passing broke our hearts, but it also reminded us that life here is not eternal. Her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and David Worzalla, and her sister, Doris, will someday be reunited with her.
Until then, we will miss you, Shirley.
Graveside services were held at Prairie Home Cemetery with the Rev. Lindsay Paul Jordan from St. Luke’s Lutheran Church officiating. We thank Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnicker funeral directors for their assistance, as well as all the doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals involved in Shirley’s care.
Please send any memorials to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll St. Waukesha, WI 53186. Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, Cremation and Pre-Planning Services is serving the family.

1. Russ Kniefel
1934-1999
by Don Herington
On the 6th of November the club lost a good friend with the passing of Russell Kniefel due to a stroke. Russ was a very kind and generous person. He was a good friend through thick and thin, the kind of friend that his word was as good as gold and you could take it to the bank. He was always there with a helping hand and a kind word for everyone. He liked building and flying RC models and he was quite good at the trade. Russ had a great many friends in the state and other states. He and his wife, Glenda, went to a lot of fly-ins and was always there to lend a hand. Russell was the kind of friend that only comes along once in a lifetime. He will be sorely missed by a lot of people. I hope that where he is the flying is good with no crashes and the weather gods are smiling. Good by, Russ, we’ll miss you.
