Shortly thereafter, Pearl gave birth to Stuart, described as a "bouncing baby boy," in the newspaper. By 26 Jan, or so, Pearl's parents and sister were summoned to the hospital in Eau Claire because Pearl was seriously ill. Either she had complications from childbirth, or in her weakened condition had caught pneumonia from her husband, or both, and she died soon after.

Mr. Hershey, long time resident of the Morristown community, had for several years made his home in Minneapolis, where he died in the Victory Memorial Hospital. The Rev. John Polson officiated at the service, and burial was in the Morristown Cemetery. John E. Hershey was born on May 19, 1861, the son of Benjamin and Rachel Hershey, and spent most of his boyhood and early adult years in the Morristown community. In 1896, he was united in marriage to Grace Henry, who passed away in September 1937. Two daughters, Pearl and Ruby, also preceded him in death. 7. 1919;The Morristown Press reported that Lyle had entered the hospital on 21 Jan 1919 with pneumonia. Shortly thereafter, Pearl gave birth to Stuart, described as a "bouncing baby boy," in the newspaper. By 26 Jan, or so, Pearl's parents and sister were summoned to the hospital in Eau Claire because Pearl was seriously ill. Either she had complications from childbirth, or in her weakened condition had caught pneumonia from her husband, or both - and she died sonn after.

Temple, the daughter of Lewis and Laura (Henry) Temple, was born on May 5, 1903 in Morristown. She married Gilbert C. Kisor who prededed her in death. - Funeral services were held Sunday at 1:30 oclock at the house and at 2 oclock in the Baptist church for Lester Kisor, Rev. C. S. Wiest of Mankato was assisted in the service by Rev. A. M. Halvorsen. Lester Aaran Kisor, son of Aaran and Sarah Kiaor, was born October 10, 1863, and passed away at his home in Morristown August 29, 1941, at the age of 77 years, 10 months after an illness of eight months. Death is attributed to a heart condition. He was born in Waterville and in 1875 moved with his parents to a farm near Morristown where he attended the local schools. October 1, 1888, he married Anna de Bruyn Kops. They lived on a farm near Morristown and to this union five children were born. Mrs. Rufus Randall of Warsaw, Everett, Eva and Gilbert Kisor of Morristown and Mrs. L. W. Fuller of Anguin, California. He leaves also ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was one of eleven children, eight of whom have preceded him in death. One sister, Mrs. Harry Wilder passed away three months age, May 30. Surviving are two brothers Robert? A. and Edward G. Kisor of Morristown. Mr. Kisor was active on the Oak Grove board for many years. In 1917 he moved into the village of Morristown where he was secretary of the Morristown Shipping association. He was also treasurer of the Morristown Telephone Co., until the time of his death. Pallbearers were R. L. Chapman, Victor Kritzer, Hugh Love and three nephews, Alfred, Aaaron and Lowell Kisor. Interment was made in the family lot in Riverside cemetery, Morristown. Mrs. Kisor was born in Rice conty December 12, 1867, the daughter of Henry P. and Anna Kops. During her childhood days she resided in Faribault where her parents operated a store. The family later moved to a farm in Warsaw township and then shortly after, moved to a farm north of Morristown. It was in North Morristown that Mrs. Kisor received her schooling. On October 1, 1888 she was united in marriage to Lester A. Kisor at Morristown. To this union were born five children. Following their marriage they settled on a farm in Morristown township. Several years later, they purchased a farm one mile west of Morristown where they continued to reside until 1915 when they purchased a home in Morristown. Here they continued to reside until Mr. Kisor's death in 1941, at which time Mrs. Kisor moved to St. Helena, Calif. She resided there until her death on November 4. Mrs. Kisor was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church in Faribault. She is survived by two sons, Everett and Gilbert Kisor of Morristown; three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Randall of Camino, Calif., Mrs. Lawrence Fuller of Angwin, Calif., and Miss Eva Kisor of St. Helena, Calif. She is also survived by one brother, Arthur Kops of Morristown, one sister, Mrs. Lucy Earhardt of Ross, N. Dak., also eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Ruth W. Adeney nee Temple was born on a farm near Morristown, Minnesota on September 29, 1912. She had four sisters and a brother. After Bible college, she left for China at the age of 22. Ruth met David Howard Adeney in China. David was from Bedford England and they married in Hankow, China in 1938.
Ruth gave birth to 5 children. Rosemary Joy Adeney entered the world after 48 hours of labor, nine months after the wedding, on January 1, 1939. Rosemary's first language was Chinese. Harold, Ruth’s next child, died soon after birth.
Ruth's family dodged Japanese bombs and Chinese brigands. The boat they took was the last Japanese boat to land in San Francisco before Pearl Harbor. John Arthur Adeney was born in Morristown, Minnesota on July 16, 1942. Michael David Adeney was born in London, on April 7, 1945, a week after the German bombing stopped.
Immediately after World War II, David left Ruth and the children with his parents in England and returned to China. But Ruth had a call to China too. In spite of bad health, she took her three small children and travelled around the world by ship and train, under difficult post- War conditions, to get back to China. Ruth knew these were key years for China and she wanted to be there.
David and Ruth built a home in Nanking but fled from the civil war to Shanghai. Bernard Temple Adeney, Ruth’s fifth baby, was born in Shanghai on September 28, 1948, although her doctor had warned her never to get pregnant again. While she was dedicated to large truths, Ruth spent her life in small services--cooking, cleaning, hostessing, childcare, packing, unpacking, marketing, conveying messages, keeping track of papers and appointments, coping with crises, teaching small groups, and mothering countless students. She gave her life in small services to others.
Yet Ruth was also motivated by a sense of adventure. She immersed herself readily in China and in her husband's England. Later, when they moved to Hong Kong, Ruth was not satisfied with the Mandarin she had learned and went on to learn Cantonese. She talked every day with local people in the course of running her house and interacting with her neighbors.
Ruth was sustained by the conviction that she was serving a great cause when she served David Adeney and her family and the immediate Christian community. She was also sustained by Scripture, prayer and singing. Until Ruth’s dementia overcame her, she sang every day. Recently Michael’s wife Miriam saw her in a rehabilitation home after she had broken her hip. She lay unresponsive. Miriam said, "We should sing a hymn," “What hymn?" Glenn asked. Then up from the bed quavered a voice that grew steadily stronger: “When peace like a river attends my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, You have taught me to say, It is well, It is well with my soul." At the end of the chorus Ruth continued to sing the entire song from memory.
In spite of the indignities that she suffered in later years, we will always treasure the memories of Ruth Adeney's courage and her willingness to serve. Once, when leading a Bible study, Ruth said, “Unfortunately, Jesus never gave us an example of how to grow old.” Ruth is survived by 3 sons, John, Michael and Bernard, 6 grandsons, 3 granddaughters and 9 great grandchildren.

1. Biography
Ruth Winifred Temple was born September 29, 1912 in Morristown, MN to Lewis E. and Laura Temple. When she was nine, Ruth commited herself to Christ. Following high school, she attended Northwestern Schools in Minneapolis, from which she graduated in the missions course in 1933. In 1934, she joined China Inland Mission, and by year's end was studying Chinese at the mission's language school in Yangzhou. For the next six years, she worked in Henan province. After completing the six-month course, she was first assigned to work in Wuyang, along with with Helen Nowack (later Frame). In 1936, she was moved to Yengcheng. In 1938, she married fellow-missionary David Adeney, and together they opened a station in Fangcheng. Wartime conditions required them to leave China in 1941.
The Adeneys returned first to the U.S. after leaving China. While David joined Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship to work first as Missions Secretary and then, based in Boston, as secretary in the Northeast U.S., Ruth cared for her family and entertained student guests. The Adeneys then moved on to reside in London, where David worked on the mission's home staff.
David returned to China in 1946 as part of CIM's effort to reestablish male workers on the field before bringing out their families. Ruth returned to her home in Minnesota with her three young children, where she suffered a slipped disc before she followed David back to China. From 1946 to 1950, Ruth assisted David in his ministry among Chinese university students in Nanking and Shanghai. The Adeneys evacuated China a second time in 1950, returning again to the United States.
From 1950 to 1955, David again joined the staff of Inter-Varsity, and the family lived in Geneva, IL. In 1956, he was offered a position in Hong Kong, working with International Fellowship of Evangelical Students [IFES]. The Adeneys lived in Hong Kong until 1967 when he resigned from IFES.
In 1968, the Adeneys were readmitted to the mission, by then renamed Overseas Missionary Fellowship. David was assigned to coordinate the Discipleship Training Center in Singapore. Adeney, Bernard, U.S.A., pp 289345,15. Rev David Adeney was the founding Dean of Discipleship Training Centre where he and his wife Ruth, served from 1968 to 1976. On his retirement from DTC, he was appointed the Dean Emeritus. Rev Adeney began his missionary service with China Inland Mission after his graduation from Cambridge University. He served in church-planting and student work in China for many years. After his work in China, he served as the Associate General Secretary of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students and was involved in the pioneering and establishing of many IFES groups in various countries of East Asia. At the invitation of the Overseas Missionary Fellowship, he founded and established DTC before handing over the leadership of the Centre to Rev Howard Peskett. After his retirement from DTC and until his death in 1994, he continued to serve the Lord actively as Minister-at large for OMF, speaking at student conferences and serving in China ministry. During his retirement years, he also served as the President of IFES for two terms.
DAVID ADENEY SCHOLARSHIP
In memory of the late Rev Dr David Adeney, the Board of Directors of the Discipleship Training Centre is pleased to announce the establishment of The David Adeney Scholarship fund. The fund will be used to provide scholarships to Resident Fellows at DTC to study and reflect, research and write on issues relating to the Church in Asia, particularly in the area of missions, student work and theological education. This is to recognise and , honour Rev Dr. Adeney's significant lifelong contribution to the Church in Asia in these areas. It is also part of DTC's continuing effort to serve and support the work and ministry of the Church in Asia.
16. Another [China Inland Mission] CIM missionary working with students was David H. Adeney (1911- 1994, Ai De-li) (Armitage, 1993). Adeney worked for several years in rural Henan and then after the war he returned to China with his wife Ruth and was involved with students, basing himself mainly in Nanjing. Adeney and Calvin Chao (Zhao Junying), leader of China Inter Varsity, were amongst those attending the inaugural meeting of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) held in Boston, USA, in 1947. Calvin Chao left China when the Communists came to power but remained active in Southeast Asia.73 After having to leave China, Adeney returned to work with students in the USA and served as director of the fourth Urbana Mission Convention of Inter Varsity held in 1954. He then worked in Southeast Asia and saw the start of a number of IFES-related student movements. He founded the Discipleship Training Centre in Singapore and never lost his passion for the Church in China. David Adeney founded the Pray for China Fellowship that later developed into the monthly prayer report of OMF, now called Global Chinese Ministries. Adeney prayed personally every day for a long list of his former friends and students in China - not knowing how they
were doing during the dark years of the Fifties and then the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). Arthur F. Glasser writes of David Adeney, “Greatly loved, especially by Asian students, he embodied all the best characteristics of the twentieth century Western missionary.” Adeney’s life and his passion for China inspired many, both Chinese and non-Chinese. It was my privilege to work very closely with Dr Adeney (or “David” as he preferred to be called) during the eighties and into the nineties.The city where CIMer David Adeney lived in Henan in the 1930s and from where he did itinerant evangelism, a place called Fangcheng, was forty or fifty years later to become the centre of one of China’s major house church networks - country-wide numbering in the millions.
David Adeney is another missionary who exemplified the Christ-like life of zeal, humility and prayerfulness. No wonder God used him in many remarkable ways to touch the lives of countless people in China and around the world. The biography of his life (Armitage, 1993) has the subtitle “Ordinary man, Extraordinary Mission”. Having known and worked with David Adeney, however, I regard him as anything but an ordinary man. He was in fact a remarkable man. I remember being in Beijing with him on his very last trip to China (in 1992). We met with several of his friends, some of whom he had known back in the forties when they were students. Those gathered had a memorable evening of fellowship and reminiscing. To end off the evening they asked Mr Adeney to pray. He prayed in Chinese. It was passionate and moving. He prayed for those there and he prayed for China. When he finished there was not one dry eye in the room. We had been in the presence of God.

DAVID ADENEY sailed for China in 1934 with the China Inland Mission (now the Overseas Missionary Fellowship) and celebrated his 23rd birthday aboard The Carthage at sea between Hong Kong and Shanghai. Some three months earlier, Mao Tse-tung had set out with his followers to escape from nationalist armies under Chiang Kai-Shek. The historic 6,000-mile Long March, which changed the face of China, was moving north-west.
While Adeney was in language study with other new missionaries, he heard that two fellow workers had been taken captive on the Long March and that communist troops had beheaded two others just a few miles away. Western gunboats appeared on the Yangtze River. But the missionaries had not asked for protection; they did not want to be regarded as Imperialists but wanted to identify with the people whom they had come to serve, and they wore Chinese clothes to express this. It was an early demonstration of Adeney's character in facing the demands of working as a missionary and teacher in China and the Far East for the next 60 years.
David Adeney was born in 1911 to missionary parents. He was the second of five sons, all of whom became missionaries. His father worked among Jews in Romania, and his brothers served in China, East Africa and Palestine. Adeney resolved to go to China in his early teens, later describing it as 'a tremendous longing' which never left him.
After Monkton Combe School in Bath, he went up to Cambridge where he played a leading role in the Christian Union. Fifty years earlier the university had been enthralled to see seven of its most celebrated students volunteer for missionary service in China. They included CT Studd (Captain of the first XI) and Stanley Smith (stroke of the Cambridge boat). Their influence was not lost on Adeney, nor indeed on the life of the Christian Union over the generations.
Adeney became the Missionary Secretary. His influence stretched well beyond Cambridge. He was elected to the student executive of the Inter-Varsity Fellowship (now the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship) and in 1933 he founded the Inter-Varsity Missionary Fellowship. This was for students from all British and Irish universities who intended to serve overseas. Some 150 students joined that Easter.
In March 1938, after four years in China, Adeney married Ruth Temple, from Minnesota, then the youngest woman missionary in China, who was working in Shejizhen. Ten years later Christian freedom was diminishing fast. All students met in small groups each morning as part of the communist policy of 'thought reform'. The church came under government control and the 'Three Self' Patriotic Movement was born. The government feared imperialistic influence and all foreign missionaries were expelled. The China Inter-Varsity Fellowship, in which Adeney had played a key role, was shut down.
Adeney then moved to Hong Kong to work with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students. In the late Fifties and early Sixties Christian work amongst university students in East Asia grew. From Hong Kong Adeney travelled extensively and was described by a colleague as 'advance party, trouble-shooter and counsellor' as he pioneered in one country after another.
Adeney was at once a visionary and a pastor. For example he arranged for a Nanjing medical student to specialise under a friend of his in Philadelphia. She is now a leading specialist in leukaemia and has been an influential leader in the New York Chinese Christian Fellowship.
He saw ways that the indigenous church in each country could be strengthened through its graduates. To this end he founded the Discipleship Training Centre in Singapore, becoming its first Dean in 1968. Space was limited, but his overview of student work across Asia meant he could 'spot' the best candidates and earmark places for them, until such time as they were ready.
In 1969 the training centre was hit by flash floods. Adeney retrieved a book manuscript he had just completed, but the pages were firmly stuck together. In character, he had no other copy. In character, too, he saw it as a chance to look at the subject with fresh eyes, and began all over again.
Adeney carried his full set of preaching notes with him when he travelled, in one case. In the early Seventies he put his case down to greet someone at Manila Airport and it was stolen. Again, there were no copies. He saw this, too, as a challenge to look anew at what Scripture taught. This calm spirit which sought the positive in every situation left its mark.
Ever the thinker and worker, Adeney became part-time Professor of Missions at New College, Berkeley, when he retired, and he held this position until 1992. A colleague remarked: 'Hundreds and maybe thousands of people count him as a close friend. People from every continent seek him out as they come to the Bay Area.'
In his travels to Asia during retirement, he always carried more books for former students than the weight limit allowed. He would charm airline staff in Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia by speaking to them in fluent Chinese. Adeney was the author of several books. He lost his only daughter through cancer in 1989 and is survived by his wife, Ruth, and three sons. (London, The Independant, May 17, 1994)

Career

Adeney and his wife together opened a station at Fangcheng. With increased Japanese activity in the area, the Adeneys left China in 1941. Adeney was almost rejected by CIM for medical reasons. By the end of 1934 he was studying at CIM's men's Chinese language program in Anqing.
1941-194? Joined Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship in the US and was initially appointed Missions Secretary. He was subsequently made staff worker for the east coast. Based in Boston, he worked with the IVCF groups at Harvard and Yale.
194?-1946 Relocated to London, where David worked on the mission's home staff.

Between leaving Monkton Combe at age eighteen and entering Cambridge, Adeney joined the Missionary Training Colony in 1929, which emphasized discipleship and evangelism. When Adeney began his university studies, he also joined the Cambridge Intercollegiate Christian Union, which was affiliated with England's Inter-Varsity Fellowship (IVF). While in college, he was secretary for local activities and missionary secretary, and later missionary secretary for IVF throughout England.

Miss Rosemary Joy Adeney became the bride of Dr. Arthur Benjamin Lumm yesterday in the Hope Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David H. Adeney of Kowloon, Hong Kong, formerly of Indianapolis. Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lumm of Wabash.
THE BRIDE WORE a silk organza over taffeta gown. Her veil was held by a pearlized crown. She carried a bouquet of orchids and stephanotis on a Bible. Mrs. Robert Wade of Martinsville was matron of honor. Miss Rosemary Overpeck and Miss Sylvia Shepherd of Sugar Grove, IL., were bridesmaids. The attendants wore pink silk taffeta gowns and carried bouquets of rosebuds and gladioli blossoms. Le Anne Hollowell was flower girl. Best man was Dr. Carl Charles Holdings. 7. Rosemary Joy Chandler
BERKELEY - Rosemary Joy Chandler, who was a Christian missionary in the Philippine Islands from 1965 to 1988, died at home here Monday. Mrs. Chandler, who was 50, had suffered from cancer for about a year and a half. She was born Rosemary Adeney in Honan, China, in 1939, to missionary parents. She traveled to England and to the United States when she attended Wheaton College, and got a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Indiana University. Mrs. Chandler's first husband was Arthur Lum, a physician, who died in an accident while preparing for missionary service. She Joined the Overseas Missionary Fellowship in 1965 and went to the Philippines where she helped found the Nurses Christian Fellowship. In 1972 she married missionary Kenneth A. Chandler of Australia. She most recently taught nutrition and led Bible studies in the slums of Manila. Mrs. Chandler is survived by her husband and by their children, Mark, 11, and Karen, 10. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in Berkeley Covenant Chuech. 4. Ex-student of College Drowns
Warsaw - A young physician and former Anderson College student, who was preparing to become a medical missionary and hoped to soon open a missionary hospital in Africa, drowned yesterday afternoon in Winona Lake. The body of Dr. Arthur B. Lumm Jr., the victim, 29, of Wabash, was pulled from the lake about 5 p.m. by a lifeguard. Minutes earlier during a conversation with the lifeguard, Robert Dowdy, it was learned Dr. Lumm lost his sense of direction while underwater.
Dowdy then had his attention diverted to a boy whose diving was faulty. Moments later, Dr. Lumm’s wife, Mrs. Rosemary Adeney Lumm, who was swimming with her husband at the Bethany Camp beach, asked, “Where’s my husband?” After considerable diving, Dowdy found the physician’s lifeless form in water about 12 feet deep and 15 feet out from a pier, or about 100 feet from shore, according to Deputy Andrews.
Dr. Joseph Mishler, Kosciusko County coroner, said death was caused by drowning. Dr. Lumm, who was a former student at Anderson College and a graduate of the Indiana University Medical School, was a student at the Fuller Summer Seminary at Winona Lake, a religious resort and educational community.
His wife, a registered nurse, was working part-time at the Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw. Dr. Lumm was a member of the Church of God and his wife’s parents are missionaries in Hong Kong. He is survived by his widow; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lumm Sr., of Wabash; a brother, PFC David Lumm, with the Army in Iran; and an uncle, John Felbs, [Phelps] of Anderson. WINONA LAKE, Ind - Dr. Arthur Lumm Jr. 29, Wabash, drowned late Friday while swimming alone in Winona Lake. His body was recovered by Bob Dowdy, a life guard, about 15 or 20 minutes after he had been missed by the guard. Lumm was a graduate of Ball State Teachers College and Indiana University Medical School. He was attending Fuller Seminary here in preparation for a career as a medical missionary. She was graduated from the Morristown high school and spent several years at Northwestern schools in Minneapolis. She was married to Henry Schol on September 10, 1939. 10. "Mission Now is Temple Baptist Church"
A new church, Temple Baptist Church, 5501 31st St. S., was organized this month. Formerly a mission of Lake Maggiore Baptist Church, the group held its organizational meeting Oct. 8 with the Rev. William Moyle, associational missionary for Pinellas Baptist Association presiding. The Rev. Henry L. Schol, pastor of the new church, has served Minnesota and Illinois churches. For the past five years he was pastor of First Baptist Church, Safety Harbor, which built a sanctuary and educational building under his ministry. Schol is married and father of eight children. Mrs. Schol has been re-elected as clerk treasurer of the Pinellas Baptist Association. The Rev. Henry L. Schol, for the past two years pastor of the Maxime Heights Baptist Church, has resigned, effective Monday to take the pastorate of the First Baptist Church of Floral City. During his ministry at the Maxime Heights Church, a new education building was built and new pews were bought for the sanctuary. New units in Sunday school and the Brotherhood were organized. Henry and Dorothy Schol Henry and Dorothy Schol will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary the weekend of Feb. 22 with a family luncheon on Saturday and a reception on Sunday afternoon. The couple were married Feb. 23, 1953 in Worthington, Minn. The couple moved to Florida in 1954, and to Gainesville in 1986. They have eight children, 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Henry has pastored many churches in Florida, and in Minnesota and Illinois. Locally, he is still serving as a supply or interim preacher. Dorothy has served these churches as organist and pianist and is still doing so at Ridgeview Baptist Church, where the Schols have been members since Henry's retirement in 1986. The last she heard from him was a letter dated Dec. 9. It stated he had just returned to a rest camp behind the lines and had slept in a bed the first time in several weeks. 11. Lila Mabel Stilwell, 82, of Bemidji died Wednesday, May 15, 1991, at the Beltrami Nursing Home. Funeral services were at First Baptist Church. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Stilwell was born April 10, 1909, at Bayfield, Wis., to Paul and Bessie Flake. She grew up and went to school in Bemidji. She married William Stilwell and they lived in Bemidji until moving to Moses Lake, Wash., in 1947. They moved to Rochester, Ind., in 1950 and lived there until 1956 when they moved to Laporte, where they owned and operated Pine Beach Resort. She moved to Bemidji in 1963 after her husband's death. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Lois Egland of Elkader, Iowa, and Rachael Noordman of Hancock, Minn.; eight sons, Carl of Mount Herman, Calif., Wilmer of Seattle, Wash., Harry of Laporte, Mervin of Spooner, Wis., Raymond of Tahlequah, Okla, Benjamin of Jacksonville, Fla., Stephen of Lima, Pera, and James of Georgetown, S.C.; 47 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, William Flake of Robbinsdale; a sister, Norma Fournier of Albuquerque, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews. Child Rescued After He Falls Into Pool
A lifeguard rescued 9-year-old Billy Fournier, son of Mr. and Mrs Frank Fournier, after the child stepped from the side of municipal swimming pool into deep water Sunday afternoon. The child was reaching for a peanut box in the water, according to accounts. Artificial respiration was administered at the pool side and oxygen equipment from the fire department later was used. Funeral services were to be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock for Frank Fournier west of Amarillo. Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors. Mr. Fournier, 72, died Sunday morning in High Plains Baptist Hospital. He was born in Turtle River Minn., and had been a resident of Amarillo for four years. He previously lived in Lubbock. Mr. Fournier was a retired civil service employee of the Colorado International Guard where he was a construction worker. Surviving are his wife, Norma; three daughters, Mrs. Dianna R. Frank Fournier, 72, former Bemidji resident, died at Amarillo, Texas, Sunday. He was born at Turtle River, rural Bemidji, June 3, 1902, the son of Cyprien and Mabel Fournier. His marriage to Norma Flake of Bemidji took place in 1929. Mr. Fournier was a member of the Bemidji police force for several years and was employed later by Cyril Dickinson of Bemidji and accompanied him to Lubbock, Texas to work and later to Denver, Colo. Following his retirement he and his wife moved to Amarillo.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Jeannette, Loraine and Diane; and a sister, Mrs. John (Blanche) Wentworth, Bemidji, a son, Jerry. He was predeceased by a son, Earl, and a daughter, Joanne. Funeral services were held in Amarillo with interment at Lubbock, Texas. (The Pioneer, July 10, 1974, p. 2)

16. Lake Victim To Lubbock
SNYDER, Sept. 10. (RNS)-The body of Earl Fournier, 22, of Lubbock, who drowned about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in Lake J. B. Thomas southwest of Snyder, was taken to Rix Funeral Home in Lubbock Monday morning. Arrangements are pending there. Fournier and another youth, Bobby Jarvin, 18, also of Lubbock were at the lake together, with Jarvis in the boat and Fournier on shore. Jarvis said the boat's motor died, and he started swimming to shore, towing the boat. Fournier saw him coming, dived into the water, and swam toward Jarvis, apparently Planning to aid him. Fournier failed to reach Jarvis and went down about 330 feet from shore. (The Abilene Reporter, Sep. 12, 1955, p. 24)
17. Funeral arrangements were pending at Rix Funeral Home this morning for Earl Francis "Buddy" Fournier, 22, Lubbock Rt. 6, who drowned about 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Lake J. B. Thomas, 20 miles southwest of Snyder. The body was transferred to Lubbock from Bell Funeral Home in Snyder. Fournier, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Fournier of Denver, Colo., former Lubbock residents, became the lake's fifth victim since it opened about one year ago. The body was recovered at 9:32 p.m. after an estimated 200 people and 25 boats combed the bottom of the west end of the lake with grappling hooks.
Were Repairing Boat
A friend, Bobby Jarvis, 18, also of Rt. 6 Lubbock, told officers that he and Fournier left their homes about noon Sunday to the lake where they planned to complete a minor repair job on a 26-foot cabin cruiser owned by Firman Williamson of Lubbock. Jarvis, alone in the boat near an inlet on the northwest side of the lake, had engine trouble and was attempting to swim and push the craft into the inlet when the accident happened. Jarvis told Snyder Justice of the Peace W. C. Davidson at an inquest Sunday that Fournier jumped into the water and attempted to swim about 100 yards to the boat to assist in bringing it into the inlet.
Screamed For Help
However, part way to the boat, Fournier screamed for help. Jarvis went to his aid but was pulled under several times while attempting to hold Fournier's head out of the water. Lem Gresham, who operates a bait house near the scene of the accident, saw the two youths struggling in the water and rowed out to them but when he arrived Fournier had disappeared. Another man identified as James H. Bryant, Lubbock, also witnessed the accident, officers said. Handicapped by a broken arm, Bryant was unable to swim out to help.
Officers Reach Scene
Shortly after the Snyder Police Department received a call at 6:30 p.m. recovery equipment from the Snyder fire department plus highway patrolmen and officers from other counties arrived at the lake. Sheriff Homer Whisnand, who directed recovery operations, said that more than 200 persons and about 25 boats were searching for Fournier's body before it was found three hours after the accident. While at the lake, Jarvis and Fournier visited at a cabin owned by Bryant and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Williamson, Lubbock. A resident of Lubbock about 10 years, Fournier attended Lubbock High School. He entered the Army in 1953 and served in Korea. Since he was discharged from the service in April, he has been associated with Tate Poultry and Egg Co. as a salesman. Fournier resided near 78th St. and Oak Ave. with Mr. and Mrs. George Tate, owners of the firm where he is employed.

Funeral services for Earl Maurice Fournier, 22, Lubbock Rt. 6, who drowned Sunday in Lake J. B. Thomas, near Snyder, were to be held at 2 p.m. today in the Vandelia Village Church of Christ 2002 60th St. Bob Hoover, minister of the church, was to officiate at the services. Burial was to be in Tech Memorial Park under the direction of Rix Funeral Home. Fournier was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Fournier, former Lubbock residents, now of Denver. Besides his parents he is survived by a brother, Gerald, Denver; three sisters, Mrs. W. M. Leonard, Fairbanks, Ala.; Mrs. Lorain Brenegan, Clovis, N.M.; and Miss Diana Fournier, Denver; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mabel Fournier, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Flake, all of Bemidji, Minn. Louis B. Williams, Rev. Lisenbea, and Rev. Jack Melders officiating. Burial was in the Corinth Cemetery with the Masonic order in charge. Acting as pallbearers were grandsons, O. L. Mr. Edgar Deney passed away at his home in this village at 2:45 p.m. last Friday, February 21, 1913.
- Mr. Deney had been a suffer for most of his life from an injury received when a boy, the pain increasing in his injured limb as he advanced in age, finally causing his death. Edgar Deney was born in Ellisburg, Jefferson County New York in 1841. In 1844 he moved with his parents up the lakes to Chicago. They returned to New York in 1850 and in 1853 they returned up the lakes as far as Superior. They moved back to New York once more before going to Wisconsin, overland in 1861 and in 1863 relocated to Morristown, Minnesota. The deceased has made his home here ever since with the exception of 2 years when he lived in Waterville. On September 28, 1879 he was united in marriage to Hetty Ray of Clinton Falls, Minnesota. To whom there were born nine children, are all living and make their homes here. They are Mrs. Lilly Flatz, Mrs. Edward Goar, Roy S., Robert E., Marshal A., Walter E., Miss Gladys, masters Leland and Daniel. Those from out of town were, D. O. Ray of Eau Claire, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Benji Gallea of Owatonna; an aged uncle Bert Gallea of Hortonville, Wis., could not attend on account of poor health. (unk paper, 1913)2. Leeland served in both WW1 and WW2 (Navy SeaBee's - The 38th Naval Construction Battalion). Leeland and his brothers Roy Sylvestor Deney and Robert Edward Deney moved to Ruston Washington and then Leeland moved to Sheridan, Oregon then on to Roseberg Oregon (where their mother Jennie "Hattie" Deney lived) and then to Tacoma, Olympia and finally Puyallup, Washington.

- The graveside funeral service for Mrs. Hazel Irene Deney will be held this Monday afternoon starting at one-thirty in Mountain View Memorial Park, Tacoma. Mrs Deney died Thursday in a Lacey convalescent home. Born in Wabasha County, minnesota, she lived in Olympia 25 years, then moved to Lacey three years ago. She was a graduate of Central Washington State College and was a retired school tacher. She also operated the Lincoln Apartments in Olympia for 25 years. Survivors include two sons, Harold L., Puyallup, and Gerald, Tacoma; four grandchildren. (Aug 1970)

John Wesley Brazzil, 73, of 6522 Pacific Ave., died Saturday. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas and came to Tacoma 57 years ago. He was a bus driver for the Tacoma Transit from 1918 until he retired in 1963. Mr Brazzil was a veteran of the Marine Corps serving in World War I. Survivors include his wife Dorothy; two daughters Mrs. George (Ethel) Dobiash of Tacoma and Meri Brazzil of San Francisco; two stepsons Gerald and Harold Deney, both of Tacoma; a sister Mrs. Billie Beto of Tacoma; seven grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren.
