- OWATONNA -- Clifford O. Nelson, 84, of Owatonna, Minnesota, died Thursday, June 07, 2001 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services Hospital in Park Rapids, MN. He was born September 4, 1916 in Oregon, Wisconsin the son of Carl and Josephine (Jacobson) Nelson. Clifford married Edna Kuehnel, Feb. 26, 1938 at Sacred Heart Church in Waseca. He worked for Jostens for 45 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1980. He was past president of Jostens Employees Club. He served as charter member of the Owatonna safety council. Cliff was secretary of the bowling league and an active bowler. He enjoyed Trap shooting, golf, camping and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He managed the Owatonna fast pitch softball team, as well as aplayer. He enjoyed all kinds of sports and after retirement took joy in woodworking. Clifford was member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He loved being with his children and grandchildren, and in the words of his grandchildren he was an "Awesome Grandpa." He is survived by his wife Edna of Owatonna; three sons, Richard and (Glenda) Cedar Rapids, IA., Gerald and (Marjean) Zumbrota, MN and Robert and (Nancy) of Bloomington, MN; one daughter, Diane of Owatonna; 16 grandchildren; Pam Marie Nelson, Richard Carl Nelson Jr., Corey Nelson, Roger Nelson, JR. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.- ZUMBROTA — Edna M. Nelson, 93, of Owatonna, died Friday, May 28, 2010, at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, Minn.
She was born May 15, 1917, in Waseca, Minnesota, the daughter of Herman and Gertrude (Angelsburg) Kuehnel. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1935. In 1936, she attended St. Paul Business School, where she was a member of the choir and was selected to sing a solo for Eleanor Roosevelt. Edna was united in marriage to Clifford O. Nelson on February 26, 1938, in Waseca. They made their home in Owatonna until she was 89 years old, at which time she moved to Walker, Minnesota.
She was a lifelong member of Catholic Daughters and a member of the PTA. She worked at Federated Insurance, King Company, Owatonna Hospital and the Steele County Courthouse. She enjoyed music and reading, and was especially happy spending time with her family, her favorite dogs and the younger children. She was a great cook and loved to play cards and board games. She was a talented artist and loved to camp in Northern Minnesota with her family and friends.
She is survived by 4 children, Richard (Glenda) Nelson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jerry (Marjean) Nelson of Zumbrota, Diane Nelson of Walker, Minn., and Robert (Nancy) Nelson of Bloomington, Minn.; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 grandchild.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Reverend Edward McGrath officiating. Richard "Dick" Nelson left this earthly plane after 86 years to join his wife in Heaven on the 8th of April, 2025.
Dick is survived by his siblings, Diane Nelson, Jerry Nelson, and Bob (Nancy) Nelson; his children, Pamela Nelson (Mark), Rick Nelson (Lina), Roger Nelson (Peggy), Bill Crouch, Becky Bond (Jeff), Bonny Steele (Todd), and Angie Birchler (Dan); fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; along with a handful of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Cliff Nelson, his beautiful wife Glenda, his beagle boys Bentley & Oliver, and one dirty old mutt named Bubba.
Despite the fact he lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the past 42 years, Dick let everyone who crossed his path know about his Minnesota roots and Norwegian heritage. His charming personality and irresistible smile made it easy for him to befriend people in all walks of life. Dick always tried to find a connection with people, and to school them on the difference between hot dish and casserole.
Dick served in the United States Navy, then went on to work as a salesman, a hotel manager, and an insurance agent. His greatest role came in 1984 when he became a grandpa. Dick was eventually blessed with 15 grandkids and 15 great-grandkids; they were one of the greatest joys of his life. He enjoyed spending time fishing, golfing, watching sports, and just spending time talking with his grandchildren and doting on the great-grandkids.
Dick lived with serious health issues for decades, from heart disease to COPD to cancer. He was brave in the face of uncertainty, and he battled. He did not let his health stop him from living his life. Dick spent his retirement keeping Glenda on her toes, going to bingo with friends, playing cards at the senior center, and keeping up with all the family's shenanigans. Dick was blessed with so many doctors, nurses, technicians, not to mention the most amazing family and friends who supported him throughout the years. He was a force like no other and will live on in our hearts for eternity.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, August 31st, 2025. Please join us between 1 PM until 4 PM to honor Dick at the Steele County Historical Society, located at 1700 Austin Road, Owatonna, MN 55060.

GLENDA KAY (POLSON) NELSON Cedar Rapids Glenda Kay Nelson (Polson) was born in Glasgow, Ky., on Jan. 3, 1939. She died suddenly on Nov. 4, 2022, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, surrounded by family. Glenda is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" Nelson; her son, Bill Crouch; her daughters, Becky Jones (Jeff Bond), Bonny Steele (Todd Steele) and Angela Birchler (Daniel Birchler); his daughter, Pamela Nelson; his sons, Rick Nelson (Lina Nelson) and Roger Nelson (Peggy Nelson); 15 grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; a sister; two brothers; and five nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Hughie Polson; her special beagle boys, Bentley and Oliver, and one dirty old mutt named Bubba. Glenda loved her family fiercely, and although it was mixed with her husband's family when they married in 1978, she never considered her stepkids as anything other than her own children. She loved doting on her grand kids, and as the great-grandchildren were born or joined the family, Glenda only grew prouder. She was able to meet all of them, including the four born during the pandemic. Before she retired, Glenda worked over a decade at Toys R Us. She made many lifelong friends there and often thought fondly of memories made at "the store" over the years. She loved cooking, baking, crocheting, counted cross-stitch and other crafts. Glenda always had a puzzle book by her chair, crosswords and sudoku were her favorite. She also had quite the appetite for putting together jigsaw puzzles, and did not shy away from the big or difficult ones. Glenda was also a big fan of bingo and always made sure to have her green dabber at the ready. Glenda also amassed an enormous Coca-Cola collection. Although she gave up drinking it for health reasons in the 90s, she always loved to snag something for her collection. She was so very fond of Christmas as well. Glenda loved picking out something special for each member of the family, whether it was homemade, store-bought or something hand-picked from one of her other collections, which included bells, green Depression glass, carousel horses and Santa Claus. Glenda was a beautiful, funny and sassy lady. She didn't take guff from anyone, she told it like it was and, if she loved you, that love was unending. She touched so many lives, she will be missed by many and she will never be forgotten. Mr. Schol was born in Morristown, MN, and was a son of the late Henry and Phyllis Temple Schol. He moved with his family to Clearwater, FL, when he was 15 years old.
He retired from Rayonier after 35 years, where he worked in various departments, lastly in the water plant. Mr. Schol was a former member of Five Points Baptist Church. He was a current and active member of First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach.
He enjoyed working in the yard, especially mowing the grass. He loved sports, including the Florida Gators, the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Celtics. He coached and umpired Little League baseball when he was younger. He will always be remembered for his love of his family.
In addition to his parents, he also predeceased by his brother, Phillip Schol, and a sister, Kay Goodwin.
He leaves behind his wife of nearly 65 years, Sherry Schol; his sons, Jeff Schol of Fernandina Beach, Rusty (Dianne) Schol of Statesboro, GA, and Scott (Melissa) Schol of Fernandina Beach; his siblings, Corwin of England, Mark of Ocala, Ronnie of Gainesville, Marlyn of Live Oak and a sister, Pat; as well as his grandson, Nathaniel.
A service to remember and celebrate his life will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach beginning at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends for the hour prior to the service.

Philip Paul Schol, age 73, passed away on February 16, 2022, in Great Falls, Montana. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26th a.m. at Crossroads Memorial Church, to be followed by a luncheon.
Phil was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota on April 29, 1948, to Rev. Henry Lammert Schol and Phyllis (Temple) Schol. After Phyllis passed away when Phil was young, his father remarried Dorothy Mirriam Frohwein and the couple raised their blended family in St. Petersburg, Florida. Phil attended school in St. Petersburg and after graduation attended William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Post-graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving as a sergeant until his honorable discharge in June 1976.
Phil went on to work for the U.S. State Department in 1971 while living in District Heights, Maryland, he met the love of his life, Ann Marie Carmines. They married on February 18, 1972, and raised two daughters, Teresa and Angela. Phil attended seminary at Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in 1974 and completed it after his service in the Air Force. The couple moved to Laurel, Maryland in 1990 where Phil served as a bi-vocational pastor at Maryland City Baptist. After he retired from the State Department in 2007, Phil and Ann moved to Montana to enjoy their qazi-retirement years, where Phil enjoyed working as delivery driver and chaplain at their church, and Ann enjoyed her employment at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
Phil’s hobbies included his lifelong love of baseball and his voracious appetite for reading books of all genres. He loved listening to Country and Christian music and was fond of George Strait. He was a trivia whiz, always looking to beat the contestants on Jeopardy, even taking the entrance quizzes to get on the show one day. He was always full of facts and jokes, many sprinkled with the Biblical knowledge he had accrued over his years of study. His faith was very important to him, and Phil loved serving at their church Crossroads Baptist in Great Falls.
We will surely miss his wit, laugh, and wisdom but we are comforted that we will be reunited with him in heaven.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother; sister, Kaye; and in-laws, Charles & Aileen Carmines.

Ocala - Mrs. Margaret "Maggie" Clay, 86, of Ocala, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Munroe Regional Medical Center. A native of North Carolina, Mrs. Clay had lived in Ocala since 1957, moving here from Hamlett, NC. She worked for many years as the personnel director for W.T. Grant Co., and also worked for the State of Florida, both at the Lowell Correctional Institute and the Job Services Division. She belonged to the Belleview Moose Lodge #1014, the Catholic Women's Club, and was a long time member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. KEIZER - Donald R. Petre, 91, died Sunday. He has been a Salem resident since 1962, moving from McMinnville, where he had lived from 1949 to 1962. Before 1949, he lived in Minnesota; he had been a dairy farmer and worked in the lumber industry. He was a member of the Army Tenth Mountain Division during WWII, and received a Purple Heart. Don married Veda on June 5, 1935, and was a great husband for more than 50 years; Veda died on Nov. 30, 1991. He loved being with his family and enjoyed reading. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Jack Walsh of Sisters; daughter, Faith Smith of Knoxville, Ky.; son, Phil Petre of Eugene; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. At Don's request, no services will be held; private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem. 3. Obit: Harry Paul Stilwell was born on March 30, 1934, in Bemidji Minnesota to William and Lila Stilwell. He passed away October 11, 2025.
He was raised in the Bemidji area before moving out west to Moses Lake, Washington and then Rochester, Indiana where he graduated high school before returning to Laporte Minnesota.
He attended Oak Hills Christian Training School where he met Delverna Elliott, they were married on December 5, 1958, following two years of service in the Army. Their family grew to include seven children.
Harry worked as a self-employed carpenter most of his life as well as hauling canoes, driving bus for Laporte and Cass Lake and doing signs for the DNR. He worked as a janitor for Laporte school and in later life as a night worker for Cass Forest Products until his retirement in 2004. Harry and Delverna also owned the Laporte Café which they operated for 17 years.
Harry was actively involved in Laporte Community Bible Church for many years helping with maintenance, working with the youth and taking many kids to camp at Camp Joy. He then attended Guthrie Community Bible Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 5 brothers, grandson James, son in laws Allen and Lonnie.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Delverna, Daughters Linda (Perry) Eisenbarth, Beverly (Bob) Gates, Connie Stilwell, Brenda Davis, Janet Sorrell. Sons Jon and Mike (Amy). Brothers Steve and Jim, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Service will be October 25, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Guthrie Community Bible Church. Interment will be at Lakeport Cemetery.

- ALVIN H. ROHLFS ZIMMERMAN, Minn. - Alvin H. Rohlfs, 61, of here died Jan. 6. He was born March 6, 1911, in Belle Plaine, Minn., to the late August and Lilli Sellnow Rohlfs and married Gertrude Alderman in Minneapolis April 27, 1942. They moved here four-and-a-half years ago. He was in the Army from April 1942 to October 1943. Mr. Rahlfs is survived by his widow; sons, Gerald, Fairmont and Thomas, Zimmerman; three grandchildren; brother, Donald, Anaconda, Mont; and sisters, Mrs. Eddie (Mabel) Krahukc, Owatonna and Mrs. Eugene (Inez) Sxoll, Crosby. On Thursday, June 6, 2019, Thomas "Tom" Louis Rohlfs, loving father of two children, grandfather of three and great grandfather of four, passed away at the age of 73 at his home in Brainerd, MN. He was born February 16, 1946, in Minneapolis, MN, to Alvin and Gertrude Rohlfs. Tom worked for Smith System Manufacturing for 35 years. He had a love for hunting and fishing and also enjoyed golf and bird watching.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Alvin and mother, Gertrude. He is survived by his daughter, Marie (Earle) Daniels; son, Britt (Penny) Rohlfs; brother, Jerry (Sue) Rohlfs; grandchildren, Luke, Elycia and Dalton; great grandchildren, Jacob, Elizabeth, Lillian and Theodore; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at a later date.
