Kenneth E. Kniefel, 42, Martinsdale, died Saturday afternoon at the Wheatland Memorial Hospital in Harlowton of heart disease. He was born in 1930 in Medford, Minn., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Kniefel. He served in the Air Force in Germany. He married the former Donna Lutgen in 1959. For 19 years, he was a truck driver in Minnesota and Montana. They lived in Billings from 1951 until 1971 when they moved to Miles City. In March, they moved to Martinsdale where he was employed on the James Moe Ranch. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Martinsdale. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Barbara and Denise, two sons, Mark and Bernard, all at home; two brothers, Russell, 16 N. Crestwood; and Alfred, El Paso, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. Reiny Reiss, 2541 Burlington Ave., and his mother, Mrs. Louise Kniefel, 710 N. 18th St. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Dahl-Brown Funeral Chapel in Billings with Rev. - Edward Ronald Lutgen, 64, of 627 Cook Ave., died Tuesday of an apparent heart attack in a Billings hospital where he had been a patient for a week. He was born May 20, 1903, at Mayhew Lake, Minn., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Lutgen. In 1909 the family homesteaded in the Wheat Basin area west of Billings. He married Hilma Farnes, Aug 1, 1934 at Ryegate. They farmed in the area until 1939 when they moved to Tacoma, Wash. They moved to Billings in 1944 where he was employed as a wharehouse worker. he was a member of Holy Rosary parish. Survivors include the widow; two daughters, mrs. Kenneth Kniefel of 625 Howard Ave., and Mrs. Ronnie Green of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, theodore of 146 Terry Ave., and Joseph of Kimball, Minn.; five sisters, Mrs. James Baker of Adams, Ore., Mrs. Gerlie Werner of Bremington, Wash., Mrs. Cecelia Visser and Mrs. Frances Stadalman, both of Laurel and Mrs. Alvina Butcher of 1819 11th Ave. N. and four grandchildren. Requiem mass will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Church. Rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Brown Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. On Aug. 1, 1934, she married Edward R. Lutgen in Ryegate; he died in 1967. Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Hine of Billings; three brothers, Phillip Farnes of Walla Walla, Wash., Paul Farnes of Worden and Neil Fames of Ballantine; a sister, Eula Lutgen of Rapelje; five grandchildren and a great-grandson. Mrs. Engelhardt died Tuesday morning of a brief illness in the St. Vincent Hospital. She was 41. A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lutgen, she was a Billings native. She graduated in 1958 from the Billings Central Catholic High School. In 1959, she married Kenneth Kniefel. He died Sept. 1, 1973. She married Clinton J. Engelhardt Nov. 24, 1979, in Shepherd . - Arthur Floyd Heiss, 96, of Miles City, passed away July 19, 2001, at his residence. He was born Nov. 8, 1904, in St Leo, Minn., a son of K.R. and Mary -Unzen Heiss. He received his early education in Minnesota, before moving to the North Dakota Red River valley for a number of years. The family then homesteaded in eastern Montana at the mouth of Skunk Auroa Creek near the Little Dry Creek, traveling to Miles City in a boxcar. Art married Dorothea Karch in 1933 and the couple ranched west of Angles for four years, then to Rock Springs were they farmed and ranched, later moving to Miles City. Dorothea died in 1999. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Miles City Eagles Lodge. He was proud of the fact that the had been an active member of the Lodge for over 50 years. He loved the outdoors and the time he could spend fishing. Art was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; five sisters and one son, Theodore. Survivors include his son, Reinhold (Vivian) Heiss of Billings; a daughter, Lucille (Pete) Ronning of Miles City; his five grandchildren, Jan, Peggy, Bill Curt and Jerry; and his nine great grandchildren, Stacie Jennifer, Mathew, Mic, Beau, Drew, Anthony, Jake and Ryan. Cremation has taken place in the Bullis-Graves Eastern Montana Crematory. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, in the Custer County Cemetery. She was employed for many years at the Faribault Regional Center, Sheldahl Inc. and Randys Meats. She married Raymond Roloff in 1951. He preceded her in death in August 1952. On Aug. 9, 1958, she married Bernard P. Parkos in Houston, Minn. Parkos was active for many years in all functions of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1562 Auxiliary and was a member of Faribault Aerie 1460, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Bernard; a daughter, Sheila (and Allen) Wolkenhauer of Cannon Falls; four sons, Carl Roloff of Mill City, Ore., Kim Roloff of Faribault, Robert Parkos of West Valley City, Utah, and Stephen (and Pam) Parkos of Bailey, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Libring of Mount Holly, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Shaffer, 89, a former Wasioja-Dodge Center area resident, died of natural causes on Thursday (July 30, 1998) at St. Lucas Nursing Home in Fairbault where she had resided for the past year.- Emerice I. Fleener was born June 12, 1909, in Dodge County, grew up there and attended Dodge Center High School. On Aug. 24, 1927, she married Leo L. Shaffer in Kasson. The couple lived in Wisconsin for a short time and then moved to the Wasioja-Dodge Center areas. Mr. Shaffer was employed in road construction and also was a small farmer. He died in 1975. Mrs. Shaffer was a resident of the Fairview Nursing Home in Dodge Center prior to moving to St. Lucas Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and a member of First Congregational Church in Mantorville.
Survivors include a son, Gaylord of Faribault, Minn.; a daughter, Doris Herrick of Grand Junction, Iowa; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Her husband, a son, three sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.

Hannah Irene, the daughter of Mortz and Emily (Davis) Jurgensen, was born on May 17, 1929 in Albion, IA. She married Leo L. Nuese on July 10, 1946 in Dillon, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2001. She was formerly employed as a waitress, worked in sales, served as a foster grandparent at Jefferson School and assisted on the Head Start bus. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, quilting and going to the casino. She is survived by three children, Norene Hanson of Faribault, Michael (and special friend, Judy) Nuese of Keene, TX and Jackie (and David) Kniefel of Faribault; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; one son in law, Terry Hanson; two great grandchildren; four sisters, Jannette Mitchel, Gladys Gould, Vera Stewart and Maydene Moore.

Jacalyn Deann, the daughter of Leo L. and H. Irene (Jurgensen) Nuese, was born on November 7, 1953 in Marshalltown, Iowa. At a young age, Jackie’s family moved to Faribault. In 1972, she graduated from Faribault High School. On August 12, 1972, Jackie was united in marriage to David Kniefel at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault. Over the years, Jackie worked various jobs including being a daycare provider, a manager at Wal-Mart, Rust Consulting and for 16 years she was a manager for GNC. She served as a past president for the VFW Post 1562 and past president of VFW District 1. Jackie enjoyed taking road trips all over the country to visit family and casinos, watching the Minnesota Twins and collecting cardinal and angel figurines.
Survivors include her husband, David; sons, Eric (and Mindy) Kniefel of Austin, Chad Kniefel of Austin and John Kniefel of Faribault; grandchildren, Natalie, Caroline, Claudia, Evan and Mysteria Kniefel, Gabriel and Dylan Kniefel, Katie Mayland and Lydia and Sylvia Kniefel; siblings, Norene Hanson and Michael (and significant other, Lora) Nuese; other relatives and friends.

Glenn R., the son of Gerhardt and Esther (Meinke) Borgstahl, was born on April 16, 1934, in Webster. He graduated from Faribault High School and was a mechanic all of his life, retiring from Crown, Cork & Seal in 1999. Glenn married Patricia Low on Sept. 26, 1970, in Prior Lake. He loved fishing and hunting and especially being Penny's right hand man at West Lawn Farm. Glenn was always working with his engineering mind and creative hands.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; three children, Jeanine (and Bruce) Campbell of Trempealeau, Wisconsin, Penny (and Jim) Gute of Faribault, and Cary (and Kathy) Andersen of Faribault; nine grandchildren, Jodi (and Dan) Scholer, Tami (and Ryan) Bauer, James and Jessa Gute, Haley and Jackson Andersen, Stacey Jensen, and Steven and Brian Borgstahl; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth (and Mary) Borgstahl of Slayton; his "Little Girl Gracie" the dog; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

FARIBAULT -- Daniel "Boone" Borgstahl, age 50, of Faribault, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at his home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 26, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault, with the Rev. Steven Kuehne, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault.

Daniel Louis Borgstahl, the son of Glenn and Ruth (Stanek) Borgstahl, was born on Nov. 28, 1953, in Faribault. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and Faribault High School. On June 10, 1978, he was united in marriage to Janice Carpenter in Faribault. "Boone" worked for several years in the maintenance department at Crown Cork & Seal in Lakeville and for the past eight years worked at Faribault Foods. He loved to be outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and also loved his house cats.

2. watonna - LaVonne "Bonnie" Walker, 87, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, January 3rd at the Owatonna Hospital with her son, Darrin, by her side. She was born in Faribault, Minnesota, on April 25th, 1935, the daughter of Lewis B. Smith, Sr. and Mildred M. (Kniefel) Smith. She grew up in Faribault and later graduated from Medford High School in 1953. She was active in drama, glee club and band. She played the violin and clarinet and later taught herself how to play the organ. She excelled in high school and was named class valedictorian. She received a scholarship to attend any of the private universities or colleges in Minnesota but was unable to take attend college. After high school, she worked as a secretary to the head of the Shattuck School. She married Donald "Donnie" Walker on December 10th, 1955. She worked at several other places before settling in on the farm full-time. They moved to the Walker family farm in 1966, the same year Donnie started his first business in Kenyon. She would say that the years spent on the farm were some of her happiest.
In 1975, the family moved to Kenyon when Donnie opened his second business. She worked at Doctor Hiner's office and spent many years working for Harris Haugen in his insurance office. She also owned her own travel agency. She and Donnie fully retired in 1994 and moved to their home on Cass Lake or "God's country" as she called it. These were also some of her happiest years. They moved to Owatonna in 2007 to be closer to family. They also spent many winters in Sebring and Panama City Beach, Florida.8. Bonnie was a member of Moland Lutheran Church since 1964. She taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Ladies Aid serving as president once. She was an avid gardener, loved fishing, crossword puzzles, going to casinos, and listening to music, especially country. She loved animals, especially dogs and horses, and took care of all of the animals on the farm after Donnie started his business in Kenyon. She was a great hostess, cook, and baker and loved to entertain. Her wild rice hotdish, fritters, and chocolate chip cookies were family favorites. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved her family dearly. Many people called her their second mom. She was very kind, generous, and warm-hearted and will be dearly missed by family and friends. She said her main goal in life was to be a good wife and mother and that she thinks she accomplished that.
She is survived by her son, Darrin, of Minneapolis, her sister, Mary Ella Kornman, of Brighton, CO, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Joanne Smith (Faribault), Ann Walker (Owatonna), Janice Walker (Owatonna), John and Noreen Story (Kenyon) and Ron and Darlene Abbe (Owatonna), and twenty-nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie, her parents Lewis and Mildred, her in-laws, John and Lillian (Cruikshank) Walker, her brother, Lewis, Jr., brothers-in-law John Kornman, Donald Evans, Burnell Schull, Jerry Walker, Richard Walker, and Darrell Walker; sisters-in-law Marian Schull, Marna Walker, and Ardella Gillard; numerous cousins, and several dear nieces and nephews.

She attended the public schools there and grew to young womanhood there. She was united in marriage to John L. Walker at her parents farm home in Richland Township on Nov. 16, 1927. They have farmed in the vicinity of Richland and Merton Township since their marriage until the death of her husband in November 1958. She has continued to live in the farm home until her death. Mrs. Walker passed away unexpectedly while at work at the Cedar View Nursing Home in Owatonna on Friday morning January 29, following a sudden illness. Donald “Donnie” J. Walker, 77, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Homestead Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 26, 1934 in Dodge Center, Minnesota the son of John and Lillian (Cruikshank) Walker. He married LaVonne "Bonnie" Smith on December 10, 1955. He farmed in Moland and owned Kenyon Farm Service, Walker Farm Store and Walker Feeders. Donnie eventually retired on Cass Lake in northern Minnesota where he loved the lake view and the fishing. He returned to southern Minnesota to be closer to family and friends. He enjoyed their company and fellowship. Donnie took up gardening and wood working while in retirement. He gave his time and attention to many people in his life.
He is survived by his wife LaVonne “Bonnie” Walker of Owatonna; son, Darrin Walker of Minneapolis sister, Marian Schull of Owatonna, Noreen (and John) Story of Kenyon, Darlene (and Ron) Abbe of Owatonna; sisters in law, Ann Walker of Owatonna, Marna Walker of Zumbrota, Janice Walker of Owatonna, Mary Ella Kornman of Brighton, CO; brother in law, Lewis Jr. (and Joanne) Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Lewis B. Smith Jr, age 82, of Faribault, MN, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 21, 2021, at his home following a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
Lewis Bernard Jr. was born on July 9, 1938, in Faribault, MN, to Lewis Sr. and Mildred (Kniefel) Smith. He graduated from Bethlehem Academy High School with the class of 1956. Lew served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Hawaii, and was honorably discharged after three years of service. He was married to Joanne Walsh on January 28, 1961, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. Lew worked on the Border Patrol in Arizona, then was a police officer in Austin, MN. He later owned and operated the Hurryback Bar from 1969-1978, sponsoring many sports teams in Faribault. He then worked at Crown, Cork & Seal in Lakeville, MN for 20 years retiring in 1998. For 22 years, Lew and Joanne enjoyed their winters in South Padre, TX. Lew loved to golf and played many rounds with family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, watching the Packers and playing cards, especially cribbage and euchre. He was a member of the Faribault Moose Lodge. Most of all, Lew cherished the time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanne Smith of Faribault; children, Timothy (Kris) Smith of Morristown, MN, Patrick (Shari) Smith of Garrison, MN, and Kelly Smith Ellis of Faribault; seven grandchildren, Nick, Nathan, Kasey, Jordan, Gerrod, Karly, and Kami; two great grandchildren, Theodore and Eloisa; sisters, LaVonne Walker of Owatonna, MN, and Mary Ellen Kornman of Denver, CO; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Sr. and Mildred; and brothers-in-law, John Kornman and Donald Walker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N., Faribault, and on Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the church.
