ISLAND POND, Vt., Feb. 24 -- Hiram Young of Barnston, P. Q., having trouble with his wife left her, taking his boy, four years old, to his wife’s uncle’s who keeps the Caledonia Springs Hotel in Newark, Vt„ seven miles from Island Pond, where he has been at work for a week past. 1. Son of Hiram Howe and Lucy K. Noyes.
- Obituary
It is our sad duty to-day to chronicIe the death of an almost life-long resident of Colebrook, Mrs. Lucy K. Noyes Howe. She was the oldest child of Asa and Lydia Noyes and was born in Landoff, N. H. June 25, 1827, and died at her home in E. Colebrook, March 6, 1898. In her early childhood her father moved to Columbia, being one of the earliest settlers af that town. She was married to Hiram Howe at Lancaster, N.H. March 8, 1850, and the next day they went to their home in E. Colebrook where they have lived most happily for forty-eight years. Seven children blessed this union, the two eldest of whom died many years ago. She was converted and united with the Christian church in Columbia, at the age of fourteen and has lived these many years a most consistent christian life. In 1870 she embraced the Advent faith, to which she has constantly clung, and in which she died happily feeling a sure hope of meeting her loved ones in the resurection Morning. During her last sickness her happiness and peace were beautiful to witness. Although suffering from a most painful disease, cancerous dropsy, she uttered no complaint, and was uniformly cheerfel and hopeful, anxious only to be as little care and anxiety as possible to her friends. The end came very quietly, she fell asleep as sweetly as a child in its mother's arm. "So He giveth His beloved sleep." The funeral services were held at the Advent church Lower Kidderville, Wednesday, March 9. A large number of relatives and friends assembled to pay this last token of respect to one to whom we may fell sure her Lord will say “Well dona. Elder Selby of Coaticook, preached from words found in 2 Tim., 4th Chap., 7-8 verses, selected by Mrs, Howe herself. A choir composed of Mrs. Lovell Hicks, Miss Patrick, Mr. Dudley Willey and Rev. G. Little and Mrs. Frank Willey, 19 grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, E. E.and S. T. Noyes beside many other relatives and friends to mourn a loss that can never be made up to them. To her the chief end of life was “To do the will of God,” and of her truly may it be said "she hath done what she could.” (March 1898)2. Obit: Alba Howe
