Funeral Services Arranged For Saturday Afternoon at Home of H. H. Green
Charles G. Humphrey, 76 years of age, passed away at 11 o'clock Thursday forenoon, his death resulting from a shock that he suffered four years ago when residing on Western Ave. Funeral services will be held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. H. Green, North Ave., where Mr and Mrs. Humphrey have made their home for the past three and one half vears, on Saturday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. E. H. Martin will officiate and interment will take place in the East Main Street cemetery. The deceased is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. H. H. Green of this city, and Mrs. G. Funeral services for Mrs. Clara H. Green who died Dec. 12, 1958, were held on Monday, Dec. 15, at the Converse Funeral Home in Newport. Rev. Bryson M. Smith pastor of the United Church officiated. The many lovely flowers were silent testimonies of love and high esteem in which she was held and of deep sympathy for her daughter, other relatives and many friends who keenly feel a great loss in her passing. The Rebekah committal service was conducted by Mrs. Belie Laplante, noble grand, Mrs. Jennie A. Talbot, past noble grand and chaplain and Mrs. Helene Ellsworth, past noble grand. Many members from Wide Awake Rebekah Lodge No. 68 in Derby and Morning Star Rebekah Lodge No. 2, Newport and Lakeside Chapter No. 27 OES, attended in a group. Bearers were, Elijah Merrill, Ruston Talbot, William Newman, Guy D. Magoon, Ralph Sanders and Reginald Ouimet. Entombment was at Pine Grove cemetery. Among those from away to attend services were, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Skinner of St. Johnsbury, Leon Parnell of Ayer’s Cliff, Que., Mrs. Mae Niles and Miss Frances Goodale of Burlington. Mrs. Green was born in Sherbrooke, Que., April 3, 1882, daughter of the late Charles G. Humphrey and Sarah M. (Scott) Humphrey. In 1891 she came with her parents to Vermont and had resided in Newport and vicinity since about nine years of age. On January 1, 1906, in Coventry she was united in marriage to Hamilton H. Green who died in 1928. They were the parents of a daughter, Gertrude, whose close companionship through the years was ever of mutual enjoyment. Mrs. Green was devoted to her family and tenderly ministered to all through illness and health. Her courageous and amiable characteristics made for her many friends wherever she went. She had been employed at several local places whenever possible to help in maintaining her home. She found pleasure in social activities. She loved life and it was her nature to love and see good in others. Her presence brought much cheer in her home unselfish devotion was ever manifested to her daughter who in turn was a loyal devoted companion through days of health and during her mother's illnesses the last being of 10 weeks duration eight of which were at a local hospital where she passed away. Mrs. Green was an active member of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge No. 2 for 35 years being a past noble grand past president of the Noble Grands Club and treasurer for many years. She was thoroughly devoted to the order as attested by the many activities in which she served. She was also a member of Lakeside Chapter No. 27 OES for 31 years and a member for many years of the First Congregational church. Besides her daughter, Gertrude, Mrs. Green is survived by a sister, Mrs. G. Leland (Flora) Green and brother-in-law Dr. Leland Green of Rome Ga., three nephews, Gardner H. Green, C. L. U. of Jacksonville, Fla., Dr. Gordon L. Green of Louisville, Ky., Dr. Randolph B. Green of Rome, Ga., and a niece, Mrs. J. T. (Virginia) Matheny of Rome, Ga., and by seven great nephews and nieces. Peter G Buckland died at the Webber hospital this morning. Mr. Buckland who was a shoemaker by trade, came to Biddeford from Newton Mills, Mass., and was employed at the shoeshop on State street. He was bom in Bamston, PQ., August 14, 1862, and his acquaintances speak of him in the highest terms. He is survived by his wife, one son, Lincoln Sidney Buckland, and one brother, Walter Buckland, of Hampstead, NH. Mr. Buckland was a member of Ashler lodge of Masons, No. 31, of Coaticook, P.Q. Randboro, August 2. - An aged and beloved lady passed away at her home here on July 21 in the person of Mrs. Caroline Wright. Mrs. Wright was born at Heathton on August 7, 1839, and prior to her marriage was Caroline E. Hill. She married Francis Wright, of Barnston, and spent the greater part of her life there. Mr. Wright predeceased her. She had been an invalid for a number of years and for the past eight years was confined to bed, during which time she was cared for hy her daughter. She leaves to mourn her death her only daughter, Mrs. Cleland, one granddaughter, Mrs. Harold Sutton, and two great-grandchildren, Tacy and Elbert Sutton, all of Randboro; one sister, Mrs. Ella Martin, of Laconia, N.H., who is confined to her room, and a large number of nieces and nephews. The funeral was held at her home here on Sunday, July 23, conducted by the Rev. A. E. Hagar, who spoke comforting words to the bereaved family. Two favorite old hymns, "Abide With Me" and "Nearer My God to Thee" were rendered by a trio composed of the misses Joy, Dorothy and Margaret Hamilton. The funeral cortege left by motor for Barnston, where interment took place in the family lot beside her husband. Bearers were Wright Parsons, Freeman Sutton, Edgar Smith and Harry Buckland. Among those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. Cordeau, a nephew and Mrs. Cordeau, Douglas, Chester and Kenneth Cordeau, great-nephews, all of Derby Line, Mr and Mrs Albert Laroche, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Ward and Miss Arline Ward, all of Lennoxville. Many other old friends and neighbors attended the commital services at Barnston. 9. Randboro, Feb. 10.- Mrs. Minnie Wright Cleland, of this place, died at the home of her daughter, Mr. Harold Sutton, on January 12th, after an illness lasting for over a year. Mrs. Cleland was bom Minnie Wright, only daughter of the late Frank Wright and his wife, Caroline Hill, in Barnston, and spent the greater part of her life there. She was married to Peter Buckland, who passed away many years ago. Of this union three children were born. Sidney, who died at seven years of age; Gilman, who died at ten months, and Frances, Mrs. Harold Sutton. Her second marriage was to John W. Cleland of Ireland, who predeceased her many years ago, leaving no children. Twenty-two years ago, Mrs. Cleland and her mother, Mrs. Wright, moved here having built a small house on the Sutton farm. She tenderly cared for her bed-ridden mother for many years. After the death of Mrs. Wright a few years ago, Mrs. Cleland went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Sutton, where she remained until her death. The funeral service was held at the home on Wednesday, January 14th. Rev. Fred Williams, of Sherbrooke, spoke comforting words to the bereaved family. He was assisted by the local pastor, Rev. Mr. Cameron. One hymn “Abide With Me" was sung by the congregation present. Many beautiful floral pieces showed the esteem in which the deceased was held. The funeral arrangements were in charge of Mr. T. C. French, of Sawyerville. After the funeral service the body was taken by motor to Barnston for interment. All arrangements at that place were in charge of Mr. Harry Buckland. The bearers were all friends of the family, Messrs, Harold Dresser of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Malcolm Dresser of Hardwick, Vt.; Hugh Sanderson and Freeman Sutton, both of Barnston. Dinner was served to all those from a distance by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Buckland. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Mrs. Harold Sutton and son-in-law, Mr. Sutton; two grandchildren, miss Tacy Sutton. and Mr. Elbert Sutton; a few distant relatives and a host of friends. Those coming from out of town here for the funeral were; Miss Tacy Sutton, of Macdonald College; Mrs. J. Clowery, Mr. J. Neilson and Rev. Fred Williams, all of Sherbrooke; Mrs. G. Frances Marion Sutton passed away at the home of her daughter in Dunham on July 28,1980. Following a few months of failing health. Frances was born in Bamston on March 16, 1893, the daughter of Peter Buckland and his wife Minnie Wright. She was predeceased by two brothers, Sydney and Gilbert, in early childhood. On August 27,1924, she was united in marriage to Harold Haines Sutton, who predeceased her in 1966. Most of their married life was spent on a farm at Randboro, near Sawyerville, where their two children, Tacy, Mrs. Clare Perkins of Dunham and Elbert (Buzz) of Peterborough, Ont., were born. Later they returned to reside near Barnston, and, following her husband’s death, she went to live in Milby in her son’s home. In 1978 she moved to Dunham to the home of her daughter and family, where her death occurred. She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her children, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, five grandchildren, Don, Murray and Ross Perkins of Dunham and Jay and Janice Sutton of Peterborough, Ont., and two great-granddaughters, Christina and Carole Perkins of Dunham, as well as two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Walter Sutton of Lyndonville, Vt., and Mrs. Freeman Sutton of Ayer's Cliff. The funeral service was held at the Cass Funeral Home in Ayer’s Cliff on July 30 with Mr. Stanley Beerworth conducting the service. RUSHFORD, Minn. (Special) Mrs. C. A. Fobes, 63, a former Rushford resident, died at her home in Redwood Falls, Minn., Nov. 10, and funeral services were held there Nov. 12, from the Presbyterian church, with the Rev. W. A. Dalton officiating. Interment was made in the Redwood Falls cemetery. Mrs. Fobes, the former Edith Moore, ws born on a farm near Rushford March 13, 1878, and was the daughter of Josiah and Anna Moore. She was graduated from the Rushford high school, and after attending Albert Lea college, was a teacher in the Albert Lea schools. Jan. 1, 1902, she was married to Charles A. Fobes at Rushford. Following their marriage they lived at Trinidad, Colo., Long Prairie, Minn., and then to Redwood Falls in 1914, which has since been the family home. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and active worker in its organization. She also was a member of the Woman's club. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Howard (Anna) Dahlke, Westfield, Wis.; Mrs. Eugene (Jeanette) Peterson, St. Paul; Mrs. Henry (Margaret) Southworth, Willmar, Minn., one son, Allen M., of St. Paul; one sister, Alice G. - Frank B. Fobes, a Green Lake, Wisconsin resident who served as a first sergeant in Company M and Company H of the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry Regiment during the Civil War. Originally from the state of New York, Fobes moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota before enlisting as a sergeant with the 4th Minnesota Infantry Regiment in 1861. He was later promoted to 1st Lieutenant of the 5th Minnesota Infantry Regiment before resigning his commission in 1863. Fobes then enlisted with the Company M of the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry Regiment in 1864, where he served as 1st sergeant in both Companies M and H before mustering out in 1865. Following the war, Fobes moved to Ripon, Wisconsin before returning to Albert Lea to operate a hardware store with his brother. Charles A. Fobes, formerly of Albert Lea, died Sunday at Redwood Falls, Calif., after an illness of several months, his brother, Harry Fobes, Monrovia, Calif., reported today. Mr. Fobes was born in Albert Lea Sept. 16, 1868. He was a descendent of John Fobes, a Scotch pilgrim who immigrated to Massachusetts in 1630. His father was the late Frank B. Fobes who settled in Albert Lea before the Civil War. He operated a hardware store here and served three terms as county treasurer and built the Albert Lea telephone exchange. Known as Foot Racer Mr. Fobes, as a young man. took quite an interest in athletics. He was a great runner and was reported to be the fastest roller skater in the area. To keep in condition, he would run the five miles around the lake before breakfast. At the county fairs, he usually won all the prizes for foot races. He was at one time, pitcher for the Albert Lea baseball team. Mr. Fobes helped his father install and manage the telephone plant, which was the first independent commercial exchange to use the Stroger automatic switches. After managing other telephone exchanges in Iowa, Colorado and Minnesota, he took up electrical contracting. Interested In Music Music was one of his chief interests. His musical and other interests in the First Presbyterian church here brought him in contact with the women he later married, Miss Edith Moore. He and his four children composed an orchestra in Redwood Falls. He is survived by his brother, Mrs. Lelia M. Ross, Pasadena, Calif, three daughters, Mrs. Anna Dahlke, Westfield, WI. Hogan officiating. Miss Mae Meehan attended the bride and Prof. F. Donovan of the high school was best man. Miss Lester wore a traveling suit of gray, with hat to match, and carried a bridal bouquet of pink roses and lilies of the valley. Miss Meehan wore a blue suit and white hat and carried red roses. Both young people are well known here, .Miss Lester, whose home is In Seattle. Wash., having taught in the high school in this city for the past three years, and the groom having been employed for the past few years at the state mine office here. Previous to his long illness, Mr. Moore had resided in Atikokan, Ontario, Canada, and at the time of his death represented the Reconstruction Finance Corporation as supervising engineer of the Steep Rock Mining Company. He had also held the office of chief mining engineer for the state of Minnesota for 17 years, and safety consulting engineer for WPA for eight years. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin College of Engineering, and a member of the Minneapolis Engineers club. Survivors are his wife, one son, Lieutenant George H. Bert Preston Moore died at his home on Joes Brook road March 21 at the age of 78 He was born in Barnet October 10 1874 to Henry and Mary (Somers) Moore. His entire life was spent in Barnet He attended the public schools of Barnet and St. Johnsbury Academy. A kind and friendly neighbor who made many friends his love for children was specialized. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge of Barnet and the Washburn Lodge of Masons of Danville who conducted the impressive commital service. The funeral was held from the East Barnet Chapel March 24 with the Rev. Balth Unger of West Barnet officiating. Soft music was rendered by Mrs. Glen Adams both before and after the service on the piano. Mr. Moore had been a long and patient sufferer being confined to his bed for the past nine months. Burial was at Barnet Center Cemetery in the family lot. Flowers were many and beautiful. He is survived by a son Raymond Moore by a former marriage, his wife Tina Hoyt Moore, several cousins whom nearly all live in the west. Mrs. Jennie Galbraith Moore died on Nov 22 at the home of her son G. Raymond Moore in Woodstock Vt after several weeks of illness. She was a patient at the Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover for five weeks prior to the time when she was removed to her son’s home. She was born in Barnet on Apr 28 1875 the daughter of James R and Annie Service Galbraith. Her early childhood was spent in that locality and she received her education in the schools of that town. At the early age of 17 years she began teaching school and taught in the Warden District, Barnet Center, Joe’s Brook, and Passumpsic. A few years later she taught in the town of Barnet. In the year 1898 she married B. P. Moore and to them one son George Raymond Moore was born. She continued her teaching in Barnet until 1924 when she transferred to the public schools of St Johnsbury teaching one year in the Summerville School and 13 years at Summer Street, retiring in 1938 after which she sent most of her time with her son and family in Woodstock. Mrs. Moore was a member of the North Congregational Church and was an anient and sincere worker in all church activities She was a devoted teacher taking her duties very seriously and never neglecting any of her work. A prayer service was held at her son’s home in Woodstock at 1 P M on Monday with the Rev. H. H. Hines pastor of the Congregational Church officiating the body was then brought to St Johnsbury to the Caldarwood Memorial Chapel where funeral services were held at 2 o’clock on Tuesday with the Rev. H. S. Hannum pastor of the North Congregational Churgh officiating. He paid a fine tribute to Mrs. Moore's sterling qualities. The bearers were James Moore, Charles Harvey, Ernest Skinner, John Gillander, Charles Goodale and M. K. Bruce. Burial was in the Passumpsic Cemetery. Mrs. Moore is survived by her son G Raymond Moore, three brothers, George, John G. and William Galbraith, one sister, Elizabeth, two grandchildren, Janet and Nancy Ann Moore, six nieces and nephews and six grand nieces and nephews. C. E. Wood, and interment made in the Mankato cemetery where the children are buried. Abbott N. Olney was born at Richford, New York, January 18, 1843. His boyhood was nent on his father's farm in New York. In 1862 he enlisted in the, 137th New York Volunteer Infantry and In 18C3 re-enlisted in the 84th New York Regulars, serving until mustered out at the close of the war. He was married November 10, 1867, to Lida A. Kellogg, and 10 children were born to this union. SIx of them, two sons and four daughters, preceded him in death. The family came to Nemaha county, Kansas in 1873 and the .next year moved to Jewell county, settling ou a homestead In Limestone .township, five miles south of Burr Oak. They moved to Burr Oak in 1879 and have since .resided here almost continuously. Mr. Olney was made a Masoin, July 30, 1881, and was also a member of the G. A. R. post at this place. He is survived by the wife and four children,' Miss Emma Olney of Fort Sill, Okla., Frank L., of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. L. L. Johnson of Jackson, Minn., and Miss Fanny Olney of Burr Oak. All were present at his death excepting Mrs. Johnson, who la ill. Mr. Olney was remarkable for his faithfulness to his duties, and numbered among his friends persons of all stations in life. Wednesday morning while the clock was striking the hour of eight, a happy wedding ceremony was being performed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Johnson of this city, when their eldest daughter, Miss Ethel Wyman, was united in marriage to Mr. Erie L. Skiver, of Burr Oak, Kansas, the ceremony being of the ring character and was performed by Rev. Walter M. Swann of the Presbyterian church in the presence of only the relatives. The rooms were decorated with pink and white .carnations and presented a very beautiful appearance. The bride was becomingly attired in a beautiful dress of cream netting over white silk. After the ceremony the company was treated to a dainty wedding breakfast and at ten o'clock the happy couple took the ten o'clock Milwaukee for Sioux City and Omaha where they will spend a few days before going to their borne at Burr Oak. They were accompanied as far as Miloma by relatives and given a rousing send off as they took the Omaha south. Miss Ethel is a young lady who enjoyed a large circle of friends in this city. For the past two years she has been employed in the office of Dr. Wold where she was a general favorite with all who enjoyed her acquaintance. Mr. Skiver is a promising young business man of Burr Oak and has prepared a comfortable cottage which is all furnished and ready for their arrival home, The Pilot gladly joins with friends in extending congratulations upon tbe happy event and wishes them a life full to overflowing of richest joys. Johnson Skiver, a longtime former resident of the Burr Oak community, passed away April 11th at the Willow Tree Convalescent Home, Oakland, California, after a prolonged illness. She had made her home for the past 11 years at Oakland, California, with her son, Gordon, and wife, Greta. She was born in the house still standing in Burr Oak, Kansas, January 31, 1881. her childhood was spent in the Burr Oak community, attending school there, and at the age of 22 the family moved to Minnesota. In 1908 she was married to Erie Skiver and to this union a son, Gordon, was born. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1958. With the passing of Mr. Skiver in 1959, she then moved to California to make her home with her son. She is survived by her son Gordon, and wife, Greta, of Oakland, California; a sister, Mrs. L. H. Weise of Dana Point, California; a sister-in- law, Mrs. Ethel Johnson of Jackson, Minnesota; and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held April 14 at 2:00 p.m., at the Kramer Funeral Home. Burial was in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Kansas.

Cloay Ann, Willek. daughter of Levi and Sydney Willek died at the home of her son, J. C. Skiver in Burr Oak, Kans., February 27, 1918, at the age of 70 years, months and 16 days. She was married in 1862 to Francis Marion Barnett, who enlisted three weeks later as a Union soldier and who soon afterwards was taken prisoner, and died in Andersonville prison. To this union was born, one son. Some years later she was married to James Skiver, to which union were born, five children four boys and one girl. The children are F. M. Barnett of Mankato, Eugene Skiver of Elk Mountain, Wyoming, Ida Beanblossom, E. L. and J. C. Skiver of Burr Oak and Orfa Skiver of Oklahoma City. Mrs. Skiver was a true christian having been a member of the First Baptist church of Burr Oak. but prior to ber death she had moved her membership to the United Brethren church, where she was always found in her place both in the Sunday school and church services. She was a good mother and will be greatly missed by the family as well as all who knew her. The aged husband, six children and 11 grandchildren, and many friends and relatives are left to mourn her loss. The funeral services were held at the M. E, church, conducted by Rev. J. D. Lamb, her former pastor, assisted by Rev. H. J. Lorena, and the body was laid to rest in the Burr Oak cemetery.2. An Old Resident Dies at Burr Oak
Erie LaSalle Skiver, 83, a life-long resident of the Burr Oak community died at his home at that place Dec. 9. He operated a garage in Burr Oak from 1912 until September, 1959. Mr. Skiver waa born, in a sod house on the homestead of his parents north of Burr Oak. He was a 60-year member of the Bun-Oak Masonic lodge. He served in varioua city offices and was a loyal supporter of his town of Burr Oak. He is survived by his wife, son, Gordon, of Oakland, Calif., and a host of friends and neighbors. Funeral eervicea were held in the Methodist church at Burr Oak Saturday, Dec. 12, and interment waa in the Burr Oak cemetery, the Masonic lodge having charge of the graveside services.(The Superior Express, Dec. 24, 1959, p. 1)

Abigail Moore Johnson, 94, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, Au. 22, 2015, at St. Marks Lutheran Home.
Abigail Moore Johnson was born in Estherville, Iowa, July 21, 1921, to George M. and Ora Moore. She attended elementary school in Jackson, Minnesota, and graduated from Jackson High School in 1939. The following fall she entered Macalester College in St. Paul and graduated in 1943 with a bachelor's degree in English.
She taught senior high English courses in the high schools of Pemberton, Mabel, and Northfield before going to Austin High School in 1949 where she taught for 22 years. In 1962 she was married to Arthur Johnson of Buffalo, Minnesota, who was teaching business and economics at Austin High School and later at Austin Community College. They were married at Moorland Farm, Jackson, Minnesota.
She belonged to Chapter CU, P.E.O.; the Ladies Floral Club and the Collectors Club. She was a member, an elder and a deacon of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Abigail is survived by Art's nephew and niece: John (Sue) Bates, Austin, Minnesota, and Punta Gorda, Florida; and Bonnie (Russell) Grgich, Sun Lakes, Arizona. Surviving cousins are Marita Talbott, Eugene, Oregon, Warren Nelson, Sioux City, Iowa, Kirsten Bedford, Yountville, California, and Eleanor Dunning, Dana Point, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her infant brother, Judson; and cousins: Philip Shockly, Dean Nelson, Russell Albenus, and Robert and Richard Johnson.
Friends may visit with the family at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, 2015. There will be no reviewal. A memorial service will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, with the Rev. Michael Olmsted officiating. Memorials are suggested to Westminster Presbyterian Church. 2. Obit: Arthur H. Johnson, 88, of Austin died Thursday morning at the Austin Medical Center, Austin.
Arthur Harold Johnson was born in Buffalo, Minn., April 30, 1919. He was the youngest of the three children of Adolph and Anna Johnson. He was graduated from Buffalo High School in 1937. The following year he attended the Minneapolis School of Business.
In 1938 he entered Macalester College in St. Paul and was there until 1941, when he enlisted in the U. S. Air Corps, where he was in the Finance Department. He was discharged in 1946 as a Captain and was Finance Officer at Pope Field in North Carolina.
He then returned to Macalester and was graduated in 1946 with a BA degree. In 1951 he graduated from the University of Denver with an MBA degree. Later he furthered his study of economics at the University of Missouri and at the University of Minnesota.
He taught in the high schools of LeSueur, Minn. and Oxnard, Calif. before coming to Austin in 1950. He taught in the business education department of Austin High School from 1950-1965. He then taught economics at Austin Community College from 1965-1980.
In 1962 he married Abigail Moore, who was teaching senior high English in Austin High School. They were married at Moorland Farm, Jackson, Minn.
Art was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as both elder and deacon.
Survivors include his wife; one nephew, John (Sue) Bates, Punta Gorda, Fla. and Austin; one niece, Bonnie (Russell) Grgich, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; two great-nephews; two great-nieces; three great-grand-nieces; three great-grand-nephews; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mildred; one brother, Bernard.
Friends may visit with the family at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4-7 p.m. Sunday. There will be no reviewal. A memorial service will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Monday, July 2, 2007 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Andrew Lindahl officiating.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Jackson, Minn. at a later date.
