1. George C. Brandt, Inc. was founded in St. Paul, Minnesota by Lyman A. Moore in 1894 and was originally named L.A. Moore and Co. The company was engaged in the business of brokering pigments and oils used in the paint products of that time. George C. Brandt, Sr. joined Mr. Moore (his father in-law) as a warehouse man and eventually took over the business upon the premature death of Lyman Moore in 1923.
George Sr. incorporated the Company in the state of Minnesota in 1924 under its present day name.
Over the next few decades George Sr. and his sons expanded into the Chicago, Kansas City and Denver areas. Also during that time many leading chemical and container manufacturers assigned their sales and distribution rights to the Brandt Co.
In the early 1970’s the next generation of Brandt’s became involved in the business and by the middle 1980’s had been given control of the business by their fathers and uncles. Through acquisitions the Company expanded into St. Louis, Missouri and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Presently, George C. Brandt, Inc. is managed by J. Chris Brandt and George A.C. Brandt, II.

about twelve years. The latter part of 1884, he moved to Birdseye, Ind., and engaged in general merchandise with William Koerner, owning a one-half interest in the business. Frank Zimmer, Known As "Father of Birdseye" Dies At Age of 73.
Frank Zimmer, aged 73 years, one of the best known business men in this part of Indiana, died at his home in Birdseye yesterday afternoon of apoplexy. He was known as the "Father of Birdseye" having come there when the town, was laid out and it was through his efforts and the efforts of the Koerners, the Hubbards and a f ew others that the town grew into the thriving and prosperous little city it now is. Mr. Zimmer leaves surviving him, his wife, and one son, George Zimmer, who was chief of the navy department detail which made the moving picture history of the world war. The latter through his service in the world war in the aviation corps and in the procuring of moving pictures for the United States government of many of the bloodiest battles fought is known throughout the United States. Mr, Zimmer was laid to rest in the Birdseye cemetery Thursday afternoon. The glowing tribute found on another page of this issue was paid to the deceased by Geo. R. Wilson state manager of the State Life Insurance Co. (The Herald, March 4, 1921, p. 1)4. Eulogy on Frank Zimmer
(By Geo. R. Wilson.)
" It is not often that one is called upon to chronicle the death of so good and noble a man as Frank Zimmer of Birdseye, one of the real substantial business men of southern Indiana. His passing, to that undiscovered country from whose borne no traveler returns was one of the saddest days in the history of Birdseye, a town whose growth and prosperity were jn a large measure due to the great enterprise and unusual business ability of the man who has just passed away. His broad ideals, hearty sympathy and sterling worth of character gave any movement he endorsed a standing in his own home town. He possessed that integrity, elevation to pure ends, high ambition, manly independence and honor that never knew a stain. It was his habit to talk in earnest; he had no idle words. His passing will be mourned by hundreds who admired his polished manner and enjoyed his true friendship. He was genial, generous, and always recognized the finer feelings of humanity. His benevolence was untrammelled by creed, race or politics. His charity was open to no criticism along those lines. He leaves us with respect, admiration, and gratitude of an entire community, a community not bounded by geographical lines, but by a line of friends limited only by those who knew him not. None knew him but to praise. His wisdom, purposes and steady power for good shall long be remembered. Fault-finding or censorious words were not in his vocabulary. He was utterly without anger, malice or suspicion. He belonged to that class of men who are genuinely interested in everything that was best for his community. He was a man of firmness and courage and of that uncompromising nature that men have who know the right thjng and dare to do it. He would suffer no one to be wronged; he was the soul of honor, and fair-dealing. The evening twilight of his life was sweetened by the returns of his son from the horrors of war across the sea, and the new health and womanly vigor recently acquired by his beloved wife. Generous greetings were given his friends up to the time the gathering shadows settled into the night that came with purple without a morn. He possessed a bouyant cheerfulness, and a faith in God and man. He always rang true to every moral appeal; and passed away in the fullness of respected years. Words fail us when we try to pay a suitable tribute to his life and memory, to the life and memory of a man who was affectionate in his nature, and who knew the common people, sympathized with their aims in life, responded to their thoughts and appreciated, their qualities. A short eulogy, a handful of earth and a sprig of acacia can not do him justice. A village weeps and a county mourns. (The Herald, March 4, 1921, p. 4)
Frank and Mary had the following children:
