434. Mary "Molly" Edna Brandt (Gertrude T. Moore , Lyman Abijah Moore , Samuel Moore , Susannah Morrison , John , Samuel ) was born on 29 Sep 1926 in St Paul, Ramsey Co., MN. She died on 26 Mar 2018 in Hackensack, Cass Co., MN.

1. Obit: Mary Brandt Bliska
Mary Edna (Molly) Brandt Bliska, age 91, passed away at her beloved home on Ten Mile Lake, Hackensack, Minn., Monday, March 26, 2018.
Molly was born Sept. 29, 1926, the youngest of five children, to Gertrude Moore Brandt and George Armstrong Custer Brandt in St. Paul. Molly attended Murray High School in St. Paul and graduated with a degree in psychology from Carleton College in 1948. She subsequently enrolled at the University of Minnesota and, in 1950, earned a degree in Elementary Education.
As a child, Molly summered with her family on Ten Mile Lake. Later, she was a counselor at an idyllic summer camp for girls on the lake at Camp Hillaway.
After graduating from University of Minnesota, Molly relocated to Boulder, Colo., to teach and to ski. In Boulder, she met Thomas Edward Bliska. They married in St. Paul in August 1951. In 1953, Molly and Tom settled in Grand Junction, Colo., where Tom started an architecture practice. Molly and Tom had four children: Thomas, Christian, Mary and James. Tom Sr. died in 1965 of complications from diabetes, and the family spent some years moving before landing back in Minnesota.
In 1980, Molly purchased a log cabin on the east shore of her favorite spot: Ten Mile Lake. Each of Molly's four brothers — James, Lyman, George and David — owned summer homes on the lake. Undaunted by the elements, Molly resided there year-round. Molly prepared for the cold of the North Woods by lighting a fire in her Jotul. She meticulously recorded the first ice on the lake each winter and the first melt each spring. As the ice went out, Molly listened for the wails, yodels and tremolos of the returning loons. With her canine and feline companions, Molly lived a quiet life that she loved, cozy in her cherished log cabin, nestled among fragrant pines, comforted by waves slapping the rocks of her shoreline. She was a cherished friend to many members of the local community, the summer residents and her church.
Molly worked with the Head Start Program in Cass County, was active in the Ten Mile Lake Association and the Union Congregational Church in Hackensack.
Molly was predeceased by her husband and her four brothers.
She is survived by her children, Thomas Bliska (Gray Boyce) of Mill Valley, Calif., Christian Bliska of Afton, Mary McVay (Michael) of Hobbs, N.M., and James Bliska (Janice Valmassoi) of Hanover, N.H.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who dearly loved their Grama Molly, as she did them. She will also be missed by her numerous nieces and nephews. (The Pilot-Independent, (Walker, MN) March 30, 2018)

2. The Syrup on Your Pancakes Most Likely Was Processed on Grimm Co. Equipment
A fundamenta] part of making maple syrup is the tin evaporating pans in which sap changes to symp. Gordon Lear, of Pittsford solders a new pan together at the Grimm factory. (Herald photo- Lazenby)
By JOHN LAZENBY
While most Vermont ers spend the winter alternately enjoying the snow and hoping for spring, workers at G. H. Grimm Co., Inc. on Pine Street will be spending the time preparing the equipment that will catch and cure maple sap when it runs again in warmer weather. The company, operating from the same factory since 1898, is probably one of the world's largest, oldest, and best known manufacturers of virtually all the devices needed to collect sap
and convert it to maple syrup. You name it, if it has to do with "sugaring" it probably comes out of the Grimm factory. From Grimm spouts which, when inserted in maple trees, fill Grimm buckets (protected by Grimm covers) that hang from Grimm hooks, to specially desired sap gathering pails, to six-foot-by-20-foot oil burning Grimm evaporators with automatic controls, the company supplies syrup-makers around the country. From the outside, the factory looks like you might expect a 19th century Vermont factory to look. A long, plain, gray clapboard building, it stands unobtrusively across the tracks on the west side of the city. Most Rutlanders probably have some idea of what goes on behind its doors, but few realize the building is wall-to-wall sugaring equipment and metal craftsmanship. The proper descriptive term for G. H. Grimm Co., Inc. is "metal fabricators." according to Philip D. Moore, secretary and treasurer of the company. The concern is a family outfit. Moore's father, Robert F. Moore, is president. His brother, Robert L. Moore, is vice president. The ^Ider Moore bought the company from the late Mrs. Nella Grimm Fox in 1951. Since then it has expanded from one employe to 18.
The company was established by Mrs, Fox's father, G. H. Grimm, in Hudson, Ohio in 1880. He consolidated the operation into the Rutland plant in 1898. Before Grimm started putting his syrup-making ideas to work, the story goes, Vermonters were boiling down sap in kettles and flat pans.
Now, as in the past, galvanized metal, cast iron, and imported English tin, are shipped into the factory, and completed syrup- making products are shipped out. The equipment goes to practically every area in the country which has large enough stands of sugar and soft maple to make syrup. Though the factory's production has expanded in the past 20 years, its low ceilings and rough beams still maintain an aura of the 1890's. Stepping into it is in many ways like a step back in time. In its business office, the firm's original roll-top desk and wooden filing cabinets stand beside a modem duplicating machine. Maps on the wall show its territory, which stretches as far west as Minnesota, and as far south as West Virginia. Almost all Grimm sugaring equipment is hand-assembled. Although the plant makes several thousand different parts, it doesn't produce enough of one part to allow for modern mass production techniques. "We don't make just paper clips here, "saysPhil Moore. The machines it does use are circa 1900 vintage, and are driven by belts from a drive shaft running across the ceiling. Each floor of the building houses a different phase of the operation. The basement stores piles of shiny tin in the wooden crating they crossed the Atlantic in. In one area are 20,000 pound stacks of galvanized sheet metal. A fork lift can't be used there because ceilings are too low. Everything is carried in by hand. In another corner are rows of oil-drum size barrels, filled with maple syrup. As a sidelight, the company cans the syrup, and sometimes sugar-makers pay for new equipment in syrup. (Rutland Daily Herald, Oct. 27, 1971)

The following beautiful tribute was written by one of Mr. Lorenzen's business associates: Charles E. .A. Lorenzen entered the service of the C. & X. W. Railway Co., as an office boy at the age of fourteen. He advanced through various positions in the accounting department, serving as mail revising and claim clerk. In 1910 he was promoted to Chief Claim investigator. November 1, 1917, he was made chief clerk of the office and January 1, 1921 was promoted to the position of assistant auditor of freight, overcharged claims, which position he held until his retirement on account of ill health. November 1, 1931. His whole life was centered in his profession and his loyalty to the interests cf railroad, was manifested at all times. Early years he was known as one of the best posted on claim matters, and was noted for his rugged honesty and sincerity in dealing with the public and observing the rules of his profession. ### a mild and genial manner, he to ###ined a fine determination to carry all his obligations to the proper end. His loyalty to a purpose was demonstrated by his constant attendance to his duties at the office for years, while in failing health. His sudden passing was a severe shock to his many friends, and caused sincere grief among the officials and employees, who were so long associated with him. To his life time associates and friends in Arlington Heights, the passing of Charles Lorenzen is indeed sad. To those of us who think of him ### was years ago, when he was one of the Presbyterian church choir, an active worker in the Christian Endeavor and always a cheery friend—it seems unreal that we shall see him no more in this earth life. To his family, to all who miss him, we extend sincere sympathy. (Arlington Heights Herald, Nov. 10, 1933, p. 3)
