2. Obit: Unger, Jeanne 67, of Saint Paul, died of colon cancer on July 7, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. Through her final days, Jeanne was incredibly strong, caring, and compassionate. Jeanne touched the lives of many by making others she encountered feel appreciated and valued and by providing love and support during difficult times. She was grateful for the care and support she received from her husband Mike and from her family, friends, and healthcare providers. Jeanne graduated from Golden Valley High School and the University of Minnesota. While an undergraduate, she served as a Student Representative to the Board of Regents and met Mike, who was then a student Regent, and fell in love. They later married and graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School. Jeanne and Mike raised their family in the Macalester Groveland neighborhood of St. Paul. Jeanne's legal career was spent at the Rider Bennett and Bassford Remele law firms. She was a mentor and inspiration to young lawyers and also provided pro bono services for more than three decades to a prisoner who was given the death penalty for a crime he committed as a teenager. Jeanne retired early to become a full-time grandmother. Service, love, and compassion were the center of her faith and her personal values. She lived her life true to her values. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Jeanne is survived by her loving husband of more than 44 years, Michael; her two daughters, Kate Unger Davis (Scott Davis) and Emily Unger (Geancarlos Paulino); and her greatest joys later in life, her grandchildren: Madeleine, Jack, Matteo, and James.
