Barington in 1735/6 was in Bristol Co. Massachusetts bay Colony. Barring which was a part of the town of Swansea prior to 1717, Became a town ( still Bristal Co. ) in Rode Island after the settlement of a boundary in 1746-47

1. It looks like Hezekiah May was in Lyme, Grafton, NH. in 1773. "According to a 'True Inventory' taken by Walter Fairfield, Benjamin Grant, William Bell, Jonathan Child, and Charles Nelson, selectman of Lyme, April 26, 1773, the 'Sum Total of the Whole List of the Township of Lime' was 63, 9s, 8d, and the ratable polls as follows: <incl> Hezekiah May, [also Jonathan Rich, who also shows up in Strafford the same time as Hezekiah]". "The proprietors and land owners of Burke, Hopkinsville, and Avery's Gore, in the county of Caledonia, and state of Vermont, are hereby notified, that a petition will be preferred to the General Assembly at their next session, for a tax of three cents, or under, on each acre of land, public rights axcepted, for the purpose of making roads, building bridges, etc. in said townships. The earliest settlers of this neighborhood were the Buckland, Parker, Converse, Cleaveland, Barthelomew, Davis, Norton, Cutting, White, and Bellows families. (Forest and Clearings, p. 55)

3. "Jude Converse m. Lydia Bemis. They were natives of Massachusetts, and settled in Barnston in 1798. Capt. Joseph Bartlett was their only neighbor nearer than Stanstead Plain. They suffered severely for a time from the privations incident to new settlements in the wilderness, but the forests gave way gradually to their industry and perserverance, and they soon found themselves in the possession of a comfortable home and a good property. She d. in 1808. He spent his last days in the vicinity of Portland, Maine. Their children were Relief, who m. Vester Cleaveland; Reuben, m. Achsah Lyman; Jonathan, m. Sarah Dresser; Ruth, m. David Sanborn; Luke, m. Susan Bean; Asaph, m. Lydia Hanson; and Royal, who d. young." (Forest and Clearings, p. 302)

ASAPH CONVERSE, born in Lyndon, Vt., 5 Nov 1797; married Lydia Hanson, who was born 13 June 1794. They settled on Nos. 17 and 18 of the first range in Barnston. They were members of the M.E. church. 5. Witness at marriage of Mary Convers (prob granddaughter) and Moses McDuffee, 25 Dec 1833, with consent of Jonathan Convers, father, at Barnston, PQ. (Drouin)

6. The settlers soon sought help from the government to aid them in holding their clearings and improvements. In the end it was settled that the homesteaders release 1,000 of their 1,200 acres to the Agent, keeping the 200 on which were their buildings and improvements for themselves. The following is one of the partitions which was sent jointly by Stanstead and Barnston Townships:
"The Honorable Thomas Dunn, Esq.
Administrator of the Province of Quebec"
"The petition of Benjamin Haines and Simon Haines, of the Township of Stanstead, and Lemuel Rops, Jude Converse, Joshua Parker and Samuel Dunbar, of the Township of Barnston, in the Province of Lower Canada."
"Humbly and respectfully showeth, that your honorable petitioners have been settlers for some time past, on the several lots of land hereinafter annexed to their names respectively, and have made improvements thereon by clearing and cultivating the land, and erecting buildings on the same. Your petitioners further beg to observe that said improvements constitute nearly the whole of their property, to be compelled, therefore, to abandon them, would bring ruin on themselves and their families."
"Your Petitioners, therefore, humbly pray that your Honor and Council will be favorably pleased to consider their situation, and put an order allowing them the exclusive privilege of purchasing said lots of land at the same price which other ungranted lands, in the same Township, may hereafter sell for at public sale."
"And in duty bound will ever pray."

Whereas JOHN MORRISON, of Danville, in the County of
Caledonia, hath preferred his petition to Joseph Moffett,
Esq. one of the Judges of the County Court for said County,
and John Baldwin, Esq. one of the Justices of the Peace
for the same County, stating that he is now confined a
prisoner in the common gaol, in said Danville, by virtue of
two Executions at the suit of David Dunbar, late of said
Danville, deceased, for the sum of Twenty Dollars and
Seven Cents damages, and Three Dollars and Nine
Cents costs of suit, both recovered in proper actions
on contract or promise, before John Baldwin, Esq.
Justice as aforesaid, signed by said Justice, and dated
the 12th day of December, 1803; and praying that he
may be permitted to take the oath prescribed in an act
entitled an act relating to gaols and gaolers, and for
the relief of persons imprisoned therein, passed
March 9th, 1797, and be discharged, and the said
Justice having directed the substance of said petition
to be published in the Green Mountain Patriot.
All the creditors of said John Morrison, are hereby
notified that they may appear before said Moffett and
Baldwin, at the Gaol House, in Danville aforesaid,
on the 27th day of June inst. at five o'clock, afternoon,
then and there to shew cause why said Morrison shall
not be permitted to take the oath aforesaid and be discharged.

[Early Vermont statutes called for imprisonment for debtors. While confined in county jails, they did have the luxury of occasionally being allowed to walk around town. Vermont abolished the debtors' prison for females in 1834 and for males in 1838.]

Under the act of May 1, 1820, his name was dropped from the pension list. He was then residing in Orange County, Vermont.

372. Caleb' Stiles, Jr. [151] (Caleb, Jr., Caleb, Ebenezer, Robert), was born at Hollis, N. H., Feb. 17, 1765; m. at Hollis, Feb. 7, 1787, Betty [also called Betsey and Elizabeth], eldest child of Ephraim and Esther (Stone) Pierce, b. at Hollis, Sept. 26, 1766. Caleb Stiles, Jr. (then in his 17th year), was one of eight soldiers to whom the town of Hollis, in 1779, paid a bounty of £300 for service for one year in the Continental army. His father and Ephraim Pierce (his future father-in-law), were also of the number; they were gone nearly a year, and all returned together. He died Feb. 26, 1807. His widow in July, 1839 (then living at Barnet, Vt.), applied for (and probably secured) a pension on account of his military services. Caleb Stiles and his wife Betsey were admitted to church membership in Barnet, Vt., July 1, 1801, and their dau. Catharine was baptized there, as were nearly all their children. They had a large family {Pension Office Records, Washington, D. C).
